Hey all,
I just recently ordered Konis and Eibachs for my 92 nsx. I was reading on the forum that it wasn’t that hard to do the install so I figured I would give it a try this morning. Well as it turns out my spring compressors will not fit on the nsx springs. The compressors are too large to fit in the wheel well. Anyway I decided that I was just going to call around and see who I can get to do the work for me. As it turns most places in the D.C area will not touch it for one of three reasons. 1 They don’t install privately purchased parts.(that covers most of the places I called) 2 they will not touch an nsx or 3 they don’t think it will go on or come off the ramp. Does anyone know of a reliable shop around the Fairfax VA / D.C. area that can do the install and not cost me the original purchase price of the car? One place wanted 12 hours at 79.50 and hour.

Why would you need to use the spring compressor while the suspension is still in the car??

I just changed my friends NSX and it only took me 1 hrs. No spring compression needed, since we changed Tein, but the additional assembly and disassembly on others will only adda bout 1.5 hrs. And definitely use the spring comprssor when the suspension is out of the car.

I tried removing the front struts from my car this morning and after an hour gave up in frustration. I could not get the bottom of the shock to clear the dog ears on the bottom mount.

I had a buddy put pressure on the rotor and push it down to the limit of its travel and still no luck getting enough clearance to get it out.

I know I must be doing something wrong, but I sure can't figure it out.

Help!!!!!!

1. Disconnect your sway bars.
2. Disconnect the bottom strut bolts.
3, Disconnect the line behind the hub. Not the brake line, if I remember correctly, it is the ABS sensor wire. This should give you the extra clearance to remove the bottom of the struts out of the dog ears.

BTW, are you the one who has Tubi exhaust?

It said in the manual to use a spring compressor to take tention of the lock bolt. Also once I try to put the eibachs on I am going to need to use the spring compressors to get them in there. I wish I still lived in CA that way I could just bribe people to help me with the car using beer and food :P

It seems like everyone is doing a suspension install this weekend. I did the fronts without any problems. I'm stuck doing the rears. I got the rears out but cannot get my koni and h&r springs in!!!

Option
I loosen, but not remove the two 17mm bolt A-arm bolt(i believe). These bolt face the floor.

There is no need to loosen the lower A-arm bolts. Just find some way to get leverage on the rotor or A-arm. I used a 24' pry bar on the lower A-arm and while prying down with one hand, gentlely removed/reinstalled the assembly with the other.

I had the problem when I did my Eibach setup. I had to use a 4 foot long, 1 inch diameter black pipe to obtain enough leverage to get the A arm down. At the conclusion of the install, the black pipe was bent to U. I would also recommend buying sheet aluminum to protect the CV joint when you are reinstalling the strut assembly. (I ended up splitting one boot which I repaired with black silicone)

I did finally get the rears in over the weekend. Thanks for the advice guys!! In the process of removing them I too ripped my CV boot

. I tried to fix it using liquid rubber without any luck (the grease kept on ooozing out). I had my CV boot replaced by Don over at Hilltop Auto Service today.

Sure anytime John. Do you know if you will be able to make it to the Autozotica cruise?

Hi Option2,
Are you going to the Autozotica cruise? If so, I'll be there too. Looking forward to meeting all the NSX'ers and all the other exotic owners too. Look for me, I'll be the one in the Green NSX.
