I thought I might share a recent experience with my comptech/brembo 12.4,kit.After 2 seasons with numerous small spider cracks I replaced the rotors,no biggie.i also put on fresh pagid r4-2-1 pads, because they have worked great.Well the pads were 1-2/32 too thick. What I did'nt realize was how much the rotors had worn and thinned~1/8 in. per half.We ground down the pads, however there was a little pad drag on the one side which was not resolved before driving to a track event.I thought the drive and track use would take care of it,,well of curse it was warp city.Anyway I still ran the event, and after taking the break apart to resurface found numerous cracks in the al. mounting hat which then had to be replaced. So now I know that any pad drag is bad,and that rotors wear down sig. as well.also when you mix and match pads and break kits pay attention to pad thickness.

There are "regular" thickness and "extra-thick" sizes for some pad fitments, the latter typically designed for specific caliper/rotor setups, particularly for endurance racing. What John describes sounds like poor manufacturing tolerances.

I had a similar problem with by AP/KVR 13" setup from RM Racing, the first time I changed pads and rotors. Pads seemed to skip over the rotor over light/medium braking (great under hard braking)... vendor assured me it was fine, and all would be well soon. Pad deposits and all that.

Well, a year later they're still doing this. I get the rotors measured and turns out there is mild warpage. Got them turned and all works fine now.

What do you mean by skipping over? Are you using pad retainer springs in the calipers? I've seen two RM setups that were missing these. They come standard with the calipers, but for some reason, they were missing.

Also, this could be indicative of the calipers not setup on the proper side.

Looking at the caliper, you should see two notches on the top of the inside of the caliper. There should be an aluminum spring plate on the top of the caliper that fits into these notches, not the bottom, and not missing.
