My engine sounds very noisy when cold so I have decided to adjust the valve clearances. Do I need any special tools for this job? What gaskets will I need? Any advice or tips much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Acura makes a great little valve adjustment tool:

Tappet Wrench #07maa-pr70120
Tappet Adj #07maa-pr70110

I paid around $65.oo for both.

Of course you will need some gauges from your local auto store plus your wifes or girlfriends compact mirror (dual mirror style).......helps you see the rear heads valves which are impossible to see otherwise.

As for gaskets? I had no leaks so no gaskets were replaced every time I adjusted the valves (over 60K), but your situation might be different.....inspect before you start the job.

Expect to take a morning the first time....thereafter around half the time. And I always spin the engine one extra time to double check the adjustments.

It's a lot of time and effort to take the valve covers off and not replace the gaskets....the Gromets and gaskets are spendy but oil leaks suck...JZ

It's not much money. If you're going to do a job, do it right.

I just had my valves adjusted, and these are the parts they replaced (total cost $53.34 at list price):

quantity 2
12341-PR7-A01
GASKET, HEAD CO

quantity 6
12343-PR7-A00
GASKET B. HEAD
