Adjusted driver's window, now won't go up all the way

While I had the door panels off to install the Leatherseats.com inserts, my son and I tried to adjust the top of the window of the driver's door. Above 70 MPH it lets in a lot of wind noise. Inspection revealed that the pitch on the top of the window wasn't as tight as on the passenger door, and the rear of the window didn't go up as high as the passenger side.

(Note that the regulator was replaced with the "new" style.)

We got the window closing really nicely on the weather seal, opening and closing the door many times to adjust it perfectly.

But then we ran the window down all the way and tried to run it back up. It came up about half way then bound up.

We un-did some of the pitch at the top of the window by reversing the adjusters at the bottom of the rear portion of the door. It went up most of the way, but still stopped about two inches from the top.

We removed the rear door sash and found that the window is hitting it. We can run the window up all the way if we remove the sash.

I suspect that the guides on the rear track are worn, but I don't know for sure.

If any of you have any thoughts I'd be happy to hear them. Right now I put the thing back together. I ran the window up then installed the sash, so the window is closed and I dare not open it again. (Thank goodness Briank sent back my A/C control unit so the A/C is working again!)

For now it's going to stay up until I can find time and expertise to work on it again.

Sounds like a simple mis-adjustment. If you don't have the manual, print the pages from the online version and start again from scratch following the procedure in the manual.

Good luck.

Been there, done that...

Follow the adjustment procedures outlined in the shop manual. You'll need to remove the rubber door/window seal to accomplish this (in order to measure the specified gaps)

Thanks for all your replies, and thanks to LarryB for the phone call.

Even though we did follow the manual, we didn't necessarily play it totally by-the-book, starting from scratch. We just tried to undo what we had done and simply ran out of time, patience, and attention span.

Sounds like a weekend project to start over from scratch. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Again, thanks for all your replies and moral support.
