Adhesive or glue for "PC+PET" ?

Under an existing thread on the topic, I noted that my interior door handle snapped - a problem others have reported over the years. Solutions included used parts, an OEM replacement assembly ($338 for the entire assembly, handle only not available) or SOS parts (handles only, $345 for the pair) that are nice, but not the OEM black color I prefer.

When I removed the assembly, it was stamped "PC+PET"
Does anyone know of an adhesive or glue that would repair that material and have substantial strength?

Hey Frank

Try that gorilla glue. That stuff holds anything I've put it on.

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for the info. Is there only one type of Gorilla glue? I've seen it in Home Depot and thought it was a wood glue.

If Gorilla Glue doesn't work, SOS says that they can make a set in anodized black if I give them enough notice.

I think so. There's different types of containers if that's what you mean.

There's directions on the glue but just be careful with that it "expands" when dry.

I don't know where it broke at exactly but be careful because if you want a perfect strong finish again I'd recommend you put to much on, have it expand, and then sand and paint your handle again.

Again, I'm not sure where it broke at but if it's in a thick enough spot then you should be fine.

There are several variaties of gorilla glue, the original is a foaming wood glue which is weatherproof, but they now have products which don't expand, which are intended for different materials, one which is a putty, their own duct tape, etc.

They produce a superglue, which looks like any other superglue, but is actually very effective after being allowed to dry for a few hours. I would try the gorilla glue superglue, which comes in a 2 pack at home depot, etc.

I tried the glue procedure unsuccessfully. It may work for a brief period of time but it is not durable enough to withstand multiple temperature swings and constant usage. I eventually purchased the billet handles from SOS (the clear coated ones) and have been a happy camper since (2yrs)

My door handle cracked near the leather-covered grip. This is what I did to fix the broken seams that were apparently hot fused by Honda that came "undone".

I repaired the broken seams of my inner door handle with a gel glue used for Pexiglass. It came in a metal tube and flows like syrup and dries hard like acrylic/Pexiglass. It was easy to apply. It is a solvent based glue with dissolved plastic. It easily fused into (dissolved the surface of) the plastic of the handle. I flowed several applications of this glue onto the cracks allowing time between applications for drying. You can build it up as thick as you want with multiple applications. It's much better and stronger than other glues that are only an adhesive and "stick" to the surface of the plastic without fusing into it.
