Adding extra tail-lights

I have a European NSX which has only two tail-lights. Most people I know have either four or even six tail-lights which I think looks much better. So I want to add some extra lights but am not sure about how.
AFAIK, the light-bulb mountings are a standard Honda mounting which I should be able to add next to the existing ones. Matter of drilling some holes, mounting the extra bulbs and connecting the wires. Or am I missing something.
Also, I've noticed that in many cases not all the lights are equally bright. Would it be possible to replace the light-bulbs with red LED's in the housing?

I've seen replacement bulbs with a cluster of LEDs that replace the factory style bulb. Try and search on the net. If they are in the US, and you need some help getting them sent to Europe, just e-mail [email protected]. Adding additional bulbs would be difficult due to the shape of the housing and the shape of the aluminum structure in front of the tail lamp assemblies.

Chris,
Thanks for your help in this.
I can find some replacement LED's at http://www.superbrightleds.com/

However, I'm not sure these will fit in the NSX.
Actually, the lights above are simply replacement bulbs and I was more thinking in terms of a longer strip of LED's similar to the one used in the third braking light. In that case it would cover several bulb-positions so that the result would be a nice horizontal 'bar' of light with equal brightness over the whole length.

Hi MvM,

The european lights are not only different from color compared to there US bro's, but also they have less bulb mounting holes in the back. (i have a set of US tails here at my desk at the moment)
Most of the euro guys with the lights all on (Guus, Gerard) are running US lights, so they only had to wire them up.
In my case (euro lights) i had to drill an extra hole to fit the bulb in. A very delicate job.

I am not by any means a knowledgeable person on this, but:

It would seem that you could buy a use set of US spec taillights and harness and join the Euro outer plastic (darker / orange turn signals / driving light, right?) with the US backing to get the extra sockets. Seperating the two half could be done by following the same steps as replacing the "Acura" with "NSX" for the US center section.

In theory, that would give you the extra light sockets and the Euro coloring. You'd still have to wire the new lights, but perhaps splicing a Euro and US harness would get you there.

Just trying to give you another option besides drilling. Perhaps Mich could tell you by looking if this would work.

Just an idea.

Mich,

Do I understand that you are without NSX at the moment. So I will not see you upcoming Sunday with the NSX?? I would like to take a look at inside of your taillights to see how it's done if possible.
It should not be too difficult but then again I don't want to getting the 'fogging' problem many people seem to have.

@MvM

My NSX is currently in bits. Took exactly 4 hours to get the engine next to it....

If you want, you can visit Holdinga next week or so, coz then we will be building the engine back in, Let me know if you want to be informed.
