CD Changer Adapters Adapters Adapters....

As I search the internet for the Peripheral ACUALP CD Changer Interface Adapter AND..... the Alpine KCA-130B adapter for installing an Alpine CHA-S634, I am getting conflicting answers regarding compatibility for my 2003 NSX. One site says that I don't need a "peripheral ACUALP" but instead a "PERHONIL" adapter (whatever that is!!!) since mine is a newer model.... and crutchfield emailed me back saying that the newer model NSX's plug right into an Alpine CHA-S634 which is conflicting with everything else.... AHHHHHHH! Could someone set me straight please... Just tell me what I need to purchase and I'll take care of the rest. I've read old threads about this but it was mainly dealing with older NSX's so searching for answers was becoming frustrating.

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE HELP!!

Having installed the Alpine changer in my '02 I know that both of these adapters are required on the 02'. The harness has not changed from the earlier cars, so I would believe that the '03 is any different. When you open up the truck you will also see the connector for the phone, which wasn't even an option.

I too felt that they were required. So... the items are for a 2003 NSX:

*Alpine KCA-130B
*Peripheral ACUALP CD Changer Interface
*Alpine CHA-S634 (of course...)

Is this correct?

Yes, that's what I installed.

Did not purchase or use this piece.

other threads with info

I remember your initial thread--take a look the the thread just above this one-Sound System and also look in Technical forum at thread "Are there more Speakers". You may find these interesting. I had told you in the prior thread to look at other discussions--these other threads give really good info....take a look

I just installed my alpine CD changer yesterday. You need the ACUALP CD Changer Interface Adapter and the Alpine KCA-130B adapter for the CHA-S634.

The ACUALP adapter is to reverse the two pins in the connector so that you can use the Bose system in your NSX. The other KCA-130B adapter is an Ai-NET to M-Bus interface adapter that allows you to connect an Alpine head unit with an M-Bus input to Alpine changer with Ai-NET compatibility, such as the CHA-S634.

If you look at most of the Alpine CD changers model #, you'll find that they usually start with CHA or CHM such as CHA-S634 and CHM-S630. The "A" in CHA stands for Ai-NET and the "M" in CHM stands for M-Bus. The Bose systems in our cars are M-Bus, that is the reason for the KCA-130B adapter.

I did do my homework before I purchased all the parts and the sales person at Circuit City knew nothing about adapters.

The other PERHONIL adapter allows you to connect the changer directly to the head unit. Since the NSX is pre-wired for CD changer, this adapter is not necessary.

I did not buy the ACUALP adapter because I disassembled the extension cable connector, which came with the changer and reversed the two pins. All you need is a solder gun and it takes about 10 minutes. If you don’t want to buy the ACUALP adapter and save a few dollars, I took pictures of the entire procedure.

By the way, you don’t need to drill holes for mounting the changer. Use Velcro and tape it to the underside of the changer and you can mount it anywhere you want. I recommend placing it on the right rear corner of the trunk.

Thanks Taj for the in-depth info. All items are ordered and now I just wait.
