"Acura Diet" Guy, "tubbing" for headroom, etc. - End of the Journey!
First off, I want to sincerely thank eveyone on this forum for their help and support in my quest to acquire my '05 NSX and "shoehorn" my 6'5" frame into the cockpit. This site is definitely a great place for NSX enthusiasts.
After all the input and ideas, and the feedback I received, however, it ultimately became clear to me that the only viable way for me to increase the headroom was to "tub" the driver's seat floorpan to get the 2.5" that I needed.
The clearance between the ground and the chassis is 6", and after the "tubbing" project, it would have only been 3.5" to the area under the driver's seat. Kind of gave new meaning to the term "bottoming out" !!
As I deliberated back and forth between modifying the car, or the alternative of selling it, interested buyers also vascillated back and forth in their interest in my car. It all made for several sleepless nights.
In the final analysis, it all boiled down to three things:
1. I did not want to change the stock look of the interior. I simply liked the stock seats and did not want to install racing seats.
2. I could not bring myself to accept the idea of "cutting" the chassis of one of the last 250 NSXs ever made. In my mind it would have been "sacriligious".
3. A guy contacted me and told me how much he wanted to buy the car. A real "car guy", previous NSX and Porsche owner, the kind of person who can really appreciate this car. I am sure he will announce his ownership very soon.
Bottom line, I do not regret a single minute or any decision which I have made in the purchase, the very limited time of ownership, or the ultimate sale of my NSX. I am certain that the car is in good hands now, and in the famous words of Paul Harvey:
...and now you know THE REST OF THE STORY" !!!
Best of luck to all. Tom
