AC Problems

Good Evening Everyone,

I hope everyone had a good Labor Day Weekend. Mine was great. It's just when I returned and started my NSX, the AC was warm. Both sides were blowing hot air. I checked the temp and it was on 74. I then lowered the temp to 60 and the same thing--hot air just blowing harder. This came all of a sudden. I had the AC checked and recharged a year ago. A leak test was done and the small leak was corrected. Is there a part or hose that NSXs most commonly develop a leak? What's the most expensive fix to a AC leak? Cost of Condenser; Heater core?

TIA,

I would think the first step would be to have the freon level checked again. Your problem may be solved with a recharge. That was the case with my '91.

When the freon is low, doesn't that mean that there's a leak? So, if you just recharge the freon without finding the leak, it will just all leak out again?

Have the freon recharged with dye in it. The cost of the recharge is minimal, about $75, and when the AC goes out again your tech will look for leaks with an infra-red light to fing the leak. This is a common technique.

If you recharge without the dye, it will, as Ken suggests, surely leak again. But you'll never know the source of the problem.

My car was check for leaks approximately a year ago where there was dye put into the system. The leak was a gasket of sometype and was spared an expensive bill. Would there still be dye in the system from last year that I could spot from the leak? What's the normal or should I say common places that the NSX would spring a leak? Worst case senario, how much would I be looking at to fix a leak?

Thanks Again,

I have the same problem. I have had the A/C recharged 3 or 4 times now and it still keeps leaking out. I have asked the Acura dealer to put the die in and they have not done so. They keep recharging it and replacing parts as they go. I am just feed up at this point . This has been going on for over a year now. However they are not charging me for the R-12, but they are charging for the lines they are replacing. If not for the extended warranty I purchased I would have spent over 4k on the climate control system to date.

That doesn't sound right. (I'm not doubting that this is what happened, only questioning why it might have happened, since it doesn't seem to make sense.) What reason did they give for not doing so?

I have a small leak in the evaporator and got a quote for $1800 for the fix.

I said NO WAY. I did have them convert the system from r12 to r232 and hit it with a can of sealant, oil, and of course refrigerent. 4 HOT months later - no leaks and still holding pressure. I am about 10 pounds OVER pressure as a matter of fact.

That r12 is as bad on your wallet as it is on the environment and you may want to convert over and try to seal it yourself before you do anything drastic. Assuming I have to recharge the system once per year with a $10 can I can go 180 years before I have spent more money!

YMMV.
