Have not driven my car until recently and I noticed that my ABS pump keeps going on and off the entire time. I checked the fluids and noticed bubbles in the reservoir. I'll bleed my entire system tonight and put in some new fluids---I'll let you guys know if the pump returns back to normal.

Anybody had this problem. The fluid is a light milky brown...

You know my ABS pump cycles everytime I back down the driveway {cold start} for about 1 minute and yet I've not attempted to have it repaired but I have knoticed my ABS still works as normal when needed. This has gone on for over a year.

That is a little more pump running then normal but it is working as it should. Drain and refill and exercize should get it better.

Update: 06/17/09

My entire system was bleed with new fluids and it's not making the noise anymore (Relieved that it was not the ABS going bad).

For record purposes, I ended up taking my car to a mechanic who charged me $180 to do the entire job (Completely flushing the fluids; dot 4).

Not a bad price.

I hope that solved your problem. Please do let us know in a month whether it comes back, especially during the cold day.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic, slowly absorbing water via any method possible, including osmosis. The net result can be corrosion in the master and wheel cylinders. The ABS system, being isolated from the fluid going to the brake calipers, runs at much lower temperatures and therefore absorbs water much more slowly. Therefore, cheap insurance is to flush a quart of fluid through the main brake system every 2 to 3 years and the ABS at slightly longer intervals.

On my '96, the ABS pump motor would run shortly after start-up about once every three days. After flushing and exercising the solenoids, I hear it once or twice a year.
