A21 Speed & B11 Tach near guages?

Just received a heads up display from the group buy on a different thread. I reviewed the 'Search' as well as the 91 Manual.

I found in my search that A21 (red/yellow wire) is the speed sensor wire that can be found on the left side of the steering wheel that plugs directly up into the gauge cluster.

Cross referencing the tach sensor from the smart shift thread I found an alternate Green wire near the ECU. However I find a similar Green at B11 that looks like it is for the tach sensor (If I'm reading the schematic right.) Note - B11 is to the right side of the steering wheel and plugs up into the gauge cluster across from the 'A' plug.

Can someone confirm both of these as correct?

2nd Question.... Would a 1998 have the same wiring colors/plugs for these two sensors as the 1991 manual shows?

Hey, Very cool that you have started the project already. I'm supposed to be getting mine on Wednesday. Then I have to rush to get it installed for our first official Northeast meet this coming Saturday. Unfortunately I don't think I will have enough time to fabricated the enclosure. I really hope I can because I'm going up to the Glen for a HPDE school next week as well.

I will be following your thread closely, I too have a 1998 and would be very interested in finding out about the wires.

Also, what are your plans for an enclosure? Have you given it any thought. I'm thinking of molding one from fiberglass using the exiting top half of the unit itself and just increasing the downward slopes of the case. Almost like giving it a big skirt. Once that is done and nice and smooth it could be cut and trimmed to fit perfectly like Dons.

The unit isn't that far off of from what is pictured as the custom case. The main difference appears to be that it squares off and curves inward at the bottom instead of blending down into the dash.

Honestly, I was thinking of finding a similar leather fabric like the dash board material (perhaps from the cover of an inexpensive leather portfolio) and somehow placing it around the unit (exacto knifing out the screen area.) You could shape the bottom out as desired without worrying about it looking like a finished product.

This way you could shape some type of mold at the bottom without needing a nice finish to the box....then adhere the leather.

I'm going to mess with it this weekend and I'll post pics.

Ok....I started fabricating my enclosure and I should be done with it tomorrow, I just have to buy some leather or vinyl and spray adhesive.

I shaped it down from a big block of styrofoam :) I think it looks pretty good. Once I'm done covering it with material if I don't like it I'll try something else. Check out the pictures below.

I have a question for you guys. Where are you going to mount the control unit?? I wanted to keep it somewhere that would allow me access to the buttons, however I don't want it visble. The NSX is real tight and I haven't loacated any place to stuff it. At first I was hoping for the ashtray (would be awesome) but it doesn't fit. Any ideas?

One other HUGE concern. I really really don't want to put a hole in my dash. How are you guys getting the wires into the cluster area??

Hey!

That looks good Jon! Cant wait to see the finished product. As for the control unit, I havent touched mine since setting it up. No need to keep it anywhere accessible. I have also reset my ecu by disconnecting the battery, and I still didnt have to re-program the unit.
