A paint job and Carfax....

Looking for advice. I went to see a '91 NSX w/67k miles down in Maryland and am slightly concern about what I found. Mechanically, other than needing a regularly scheduled tune-up and perhaps a water pump & belts, I believe the car is sound. However, upon a very close inspection, I noticed the car has been repainted. The car's current owner said the person he bought it from had it touched up to get rid of specks and minor scratches. But to me, it looked like a majority of the car was redone, evident by small areas where the tape didn't cover and where the edges weren't exactly straight. Carfax shows very few details for the vechicle albeit a clean record and Autocheck shows the exact same thing (don't know why I bothered to pay for both services). My question is whether or not this car should be avoided? Is it common for an owner to repaint an entire car just to get rid of a few nicks or is there more here than meets the eye? And is it possible that Carfax and Autocheck to both miss a record of a past 'incident'?
Any input would be appreciated.

I had my entire front end repainted for my previous NSX, it was literally sand blasted with bunch of rock chips. The car was not in any accident.

Sounded like the car you are looking at had less than desire paint job done.

Have a PPI done on the car if that checks out have a compentant body shop check out the car also .

PPI should include a leak down test, make sure the compression is good, and the head gasket is in good condition. Other than that, T-belt, H2O pump, hoses, all other belts, should be replaced if haven't been done.

You will encounter other issues, because it is an old car, but over all, it will be a nice car to own.

I'm about to get my entire car repainted because whoever painted it did a HORRIBLE prep job. They used REALLY expensive paint and did a REALLY good job painting the car and now it's flaking off because of the lazy prep job. My car is going to be $5,500 to repaint the entire car. I don't know if I'd do THAT for a few rock chips.

I'm getting paint work done now cause my door was keyed all the way across. Luckily only the door, and not the other panels. I hate it when people are destructive with no reason.

Anyways, if its frame is straight, and doesn't look like its hacked then I'd use it as a bargaining tool, but most likely live with it.
