Six hours of 100mph plus winds and a few of my observations……..Many say bad times bring out the best and worse in people, I will only comment on the good. Soon after the wind, rain, excitement and adrenaline die down reality hits you like a freight train. A few hours ago you were worried about things that have little meaning right now. Now you are hanging on every word coming from the A.M.radio trying to decipher were the next water and ice distribution center will be. At the present time there are about 3.2 million homes without power, we are one of those. Back to basics………………. Camping out There are few words that can describe the night sky when it is void of city lights, it is almost surreal when you are looking up and watching stars from your backyard in the middle of the suburbs. We have been cooking with charcoal under the light of a Coleman lantern and I can honestly say I can’t remember a better tasting meal. No TV, no Playstation, no computer, no phones only conversations about everything or conversations about nothing. No distractions other than a sky full of stars and the sound of a generator to in the distance. It’s amazing how much ‘Stuff’ we surround ourselves with to keep us busy, its even more amazing once you realize how little it takes, family, some charcoal, a Coleman lantern and turning of the main breaker in your house every now and then. Stay safe.
PS I jotted these thoughts down while in line for over 3 hours just to get a few gallons of gas.
