I came across these pics while doing some internet browsing. I've seen a 355 Ferrari use a similar tire carrying device but not any other car until now. This guy is one but a few who drift their NSX!
The efficiency of that wing isn't very good and that can be seen simply by looking at the profile of the wing (primarily the trailing edge). I dont think the wing is creating much useful downforce and more likely excessive drag.
In modern top level drifting, rear grip is a priority. With more rear grip, more entry speed can be carried, and there is more control over the car. To keep the car sideways, even more power and torque is required. So instead of simply reducing rear grip, increasing rear grip is actually important and using power to overcome that grip to keep the car sideways. (drifting is controlling the car and making it go where you want to when sideways. By increasing rear grip, you can correct the car and have more control over where it goes.)
