A CIVIC can go mid 10s in 1/4 mile

I keep telling my bone headed best friend that sports cars aren't all about strait line performance and he keeps coming back at me that 95% of people only know strait line performance and hence Vipers and Supras are the king of the roads

Of course, I would always come back at him by saying that you could make a CIVIC go faster than anything car from a dealer and hence strait line speed is not a great achievement.

Now I have proof

I stumbled on to this video of a Twin Turbo CIVIC running mid 10s in the drag strip for the 1/4 mile. The car was brutally fast; the guy driving it couldn't even catch up with the engine revving speed and kept missing shifts.

You can download it from here:

Its O-Ace's website

And show it to anyone who claims that sports cars are all about strait line performance. Or that the NSX is lacking in performance just because of its strait line speed.

Two things two be clear about:

- I have seen Civic run 11's quite a bit.

- The NSX is weak, compare to what. Yes, the NSX is weaker compare to the 996tt, ZO6, 360, and a long with a few other cars. Beside that, bring your stock NA 996, C5, SS..., and I will race you anytime for money.

I have built about 3 of those 11second, full interior, got a stereo system, no-body kit having sleeper civic hatchbacks. All 3 of them lay about 380 - 450 to the wheels, on my Mustang dyno. The customers drive them daily back and forth to work.

I'll tell you one thing, with 205/40-17's on..... they dont go that fast anymore. 12.5 - 13.2 at best on normal street tires. The more power you make on street tires, the more time you spend burning out at the start line. But watch out once they get into 3 or 4th gear. The charge hard!

But if you dont have FI, or Nitrous on your X, becareful about picking a fight with em like NEO says.

But with traffic the way it is these days, if you get a good jump, and he burns out.... you'll be ahead by the time you both have to slow down for traffic again.

can you give an estimate of what they would cost ?

Im not thinking of buying one but just out of curiosity

You can get a B16 or B18 (LS or GSR) equipped Honda/Acura or even an Eclipse into the 10's for around 10 grand easy, if you do your own installs. I have seen tons and tons of fast 4cyl imports at the drag events. The main thing to remember is power to weight is what it is all about. I have seen a SOHC 92 hatch with a $1500 bolt on Greddy kit run high 13's My friend has an old beater sleeper Eagle Talon that runs 10's with a monster turbo and intercooler.

On the Speed Channel this past weekend I remember watching a mustang run 7.945 at 174 mph. It was an older one (93 I think)

I didn't catch the mods but they said that was a street car world record ?

the tottal is 15,350 . add to that lets say 10,000 for a used CIVIC and you end up with an ACCORD priced CIVIC with the go power of a VIPER.

no wonder moding is such a big industry
