Larry B. and any other NSXer with ideas--
Update on A/C: After paying $1,800 for completely rebuilt system and only using the A/C three times, it failed to work as of 5/25. I took car back today. A/C is charged, all parts are new, but according to mechanic, there's an electronic problem that's not enabling the compressor to kick in. He said he could put a toggle switch in, but that might burn out compressor. He also said he's not responsible for the problem or the fix. I have a bill with a 90 day warranty as of 4/30. Any suggestions? Is it small claims time, time to take it to Acura, or both? I'm really pissed. Larry T.

also had multiple problems with my climate control. The dealer had the car for a combined total of two weeks and replaced almost everything under the dash. It was near 5k in repairs. Thank god I purchased the extended warranty. Sounds to me like your head unit might be shot. Unfortunately that is one of the more expensive parts. Good luck.

Little stupid suggestion.....

Check the fuse for the A/C clutch assy. There should be a seperate one for the clutch only.

That was the (last) problem on my A/C rebuild...

If i remeber correctly there's something in the faq, or a TSB (???) about that pressure switch.

Sure mis the faq-nazi.

Dutch B.N., thanks for suggestion. Followed your lead and yes the fuse had blown. Replaced it with another 10 amp.-- blew again. Decided to try a 15 amp. and compressor kicked in. I'm not sure how long it will work. But at least I have some idea what's going on. Larry T.

Hey Larry,

I was surprised when you said the compressor was not kicking in, becuase it was actually working on Saturday. Going to a 15 amp fuse is increasing the current available by 50%. This is not a good thing, since the fuse is usually sized to the wires.(electrical fire hazard) Don't leave it that way. First question is which fuse?

Has the service tech checked out the pressures hi-side/low-side to the AC system to insure the compressor is working properly. The fuse, if it's the compressor fuse??, controls the electro-magnetic clutch to engage the compressor pulley. I would get an amp meter and with the 15 amp fuse in place, engage the compressor and look at how many amps it is drawing. This is leading up to possibly a bad compressor (clutch winding anyway). Was the compressor actually replaced? Again this is IF the fuse is the compressor fuse.

The other thought is this a fuse for the condensor fan in the front?? If one of those is bad, corroded, jammed, etc. This could cause a fuse to blow.

Let me know what you have and I will think about it some more. The person you really want to speak with about this is Mark Basch, but he is not available, since I believe he is on the road. If we can define exactly what fuse, symptoms, etc. He can probably make a diagnosis for us.

Since he is in AZ, he does more A/C work then anyone else on NSX's.

HTH,

Hey Larry,

I did some checking in the service manual this evening. I am thinking that fuse #21 that blown. This is the compressor fuse and it feeds the compressor relay and then directly to the compressor clutch coil. Let me know if they replaced the compressor. I am thinking they did not.

Let me know,
LarryB
