My compressor needs replacement. I got a compressor and when reading the instructions, it says to get the warrantee I need to replace the Accumulator, and Expansion Valve. It seems like the Expansion valve is just as expensive as the Compressor.

Any one replaced theirs before?
How much did it cost?
Where did you get it?

Thanks

I don't know of anyone who has replaced there expansion valve alone. It comes along with the evaporator and changing that is a big expensive and not uncommon job. Changing the receiver/dryer is standard procedure after opening the system for major service.

When I purchased an aftermarket compressor (airco I believe) The warranty was null and void if I didnt purchase their generic accumulator along with the compressor. I opted to use the OEM accumulator and also replaced my evaporator-expansion valve assy because of a leak in the evap.

What happened to the compressor?

If it grenaded and threw chunks then I would flush your system and see how it works.

Replacing the accumulator is a good idea, because it doesn't take much moisture to scar up and/or destroy your system.

A pre-emptive valve replacement seems a bit conservative.

The Compressor still works, but the A/C is not that cold. I took it to a shop, and he said it was full, doesn't need a recharge, it is not cold because compressor is going out. So i bought a compressor.

So expansion valve is attached to the evaporator. And Generally to replace it would seem a little to pre-emptive.

I think i will just replace the accumulator for now.

Thanks for the information

What were the pressure and temperature readings?

The valve can be replaced without removing the evaporator, but it is a back-breaker with tight quarters.

Sounds like you need a new repair shop. I have never heard of a compressor that was going out they either work or not. Check the condensor fan fuses and the climate control head unit.

Oh i see, it gets colder when it i son the freeway. That is not the compressor? I want to make sure before i have it replaced.

btw-Thanks I will be sending you me climate control when i get a chance to take it off.
