A/C does not blow cold

I think that you need a freon charge. Just had mine recharged because it wasn't blowing cold and now it is nice and cold. Also, have the system checked for leaks.

If your car is a '91-92, you might want to also consider converting your system to use R-134a before re-charging it. It will save a lot of money on refrigerant, particularly if they don't find the leak right away and it leaks out again.

There's info in the FAQ about the conversion. The conversion kit costs around $60 not including refrigerant, and takes an hour or two to install.

I was quoted 1 hour labor plus materials. Also - I had to bring the car back after a day or two with the AC on so that any pinhole leaks would show up. They add some blue dye so that the tech can measure the pressure and look for any leaks.

While this is sufficient for most leaks there is better technology available - electronic sniffers that can find even a few molecules of refrigerant. If you're having trouble pinpointing an AC leak ask your shop if they offer this service.

You definitely want to check for leaks, instead of just recharging the system. Otherwise, it is just liable to leak out again, and you will have paid a lot of money for nothing.

another thought

You probably checked the freon by now and possibly have read the more recent posts on AC--if it's still not running real cold, check to see if both your condenser fans are running--if not. check the fuses in the fuse box under the hood to see if one or both are blown---It's nice to have a response as to the result--we like to know when we give good advice---also I would not have had to post this thought:)

I took my car to niguel motors, and ramon said to replace the condenser fan. He also found the leak and tighten the nut where it was leaking. so far so good. I let you guys know when ramon replace the fan with a new one.
Thanks for all the help.

AHA---I haven't been on the site long but in the other threads I have seen it had always turned out that just a fuse had blown to one or both of the condenser fans--that was my problem and two other people. Like yourself--one person had not considered the condenser fans...

replacing the condensor fan is correct. There are two of them, both in the front. Mine stopped blowing cold because one of them went out and made only hot air.

How do I check the condenser fuse? Is it labelled on the fuse box? I will probably check the fuses first before I bring my car to the dealer.

There are two fuses and they are found in the fuse box under the hood. They are labeled--look to the upper right corner area of fuse box cover which indicates their location....

I had my cooling system checked and Freon added about a month ago. I noticed the last week or so that it is not blowing as cold and brought my car back to the dealer. They had put die in the system and were able to check for leaks and found a small hole in the evaporator, which I am having a new one installed next week.
