A/C Cold Only on passenger Side

Hi All,

Just picked up my NSX this past week and really am enjoying. It is a 2000 T model in MBP / Black. I noticed only one problem in this car though. The A/C is cold on the passenger side but not on the drivers side. I figured I could probably pick up a can of refrigerant and recharge the system myself.

Has anyone experienced this before and what was the root cause? If it really is as simple as a recharge, what type of refrigerant is recommended?

Thanks!

Dee

yes its low about one can will fill her back up had the same issue,

make sure you get a can with a sealant in it will fix the small leak you have.

Integra, Vigor, NSX have this same issue. passengerside blows cold and warm on the driverside.

yes R134a from the factory, depending on your year.

I think they switched from R12 to R134a in 1998 but I am not sure.

thanks for the info

I put in a 12 oz can of 134a without the sealant and achieved about 25 psi. For the weather conditions at that time, it stated a Low pressure of 35-45 psi is what I should expect. Probably need one more partial can. I am going to watch the pressure for the next few weeks and see if I am getting a substantial drop. Should give me agood idea of how substantial the leak is, but for now, A/C is cold.

whats funny is as of yesterday mine is only blowing cold on the passengerside now LOL

but its been so freaking hot here in tampa its not funny,
my Daily Driver NSX is blk/blk so it bakes even with the windshield screen thingy. my AC is always on high.

but getting in this oven burns

Just had to top mine off, Put in a 10 oz can of EZ CHILL, FROM WALLMART, it has a safety sealant system built in,Works great.Usually have to top it off every two years.

So it is not uncommon every 3 years or so to need a top off?

I've never had to top it off since owning the car. That's over 5yrs ago. Mine still blow ice old. 93.

OK guys,
If you have to "top it off" then YOU HAVE A LEAK. Topping it off" will cause more expensive problems down the road.
Find the leak, fix that and have it filled right.

even after 8-10 years or more? a mechanic friend told me there was some small loss to be expected over time. i got curious and looked online, didn't find much, but did find this german study by an environmental consulting firm which said there is some expected rate of loss-

http://www.oekorecherche.de/en/node/86

which they found to be 6.3% per year in the studied sample of 1000 a/c units

When the "freon" "leaks" for whatever reason, it's replaced by air.
The air then mixes with the remaining or residual "freon" and creates hydrocloric acid. (HCl)
It then eats the system from the inside which is why you need to evacuate the system of the air and re-charge it or down the road, you get to replace the whole system, usually one piece at a time as they fail.

what temp should the AC blow out at full blast?
was 95 degrees here and it was comfortable but not super cold at full blast.
