The next time you hear a politician use the word "billion," casually,
think about whether you want the politician spending your tax money.

A billion is a difficult number to comprehend, but one advertising
agency did a good job of putting that figure into perspective in one of its
releases.

A billion seconds ago it was 1959.

A billion minutes ago Jesus was alive.

A billion hours ago our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A billion days ago no one walked on two feet on earth.

A billion dollars ago was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our
government spends it. Mostly borrowed or taken from Social Security.

I'm not trying to spark a political debate, just thought it was a cool perspective on the number "1 billion"

This reminds me of a little calculation that I find amazing.

If the silicon atoms from one (1) cubic centimeter of solid silicon crystal are unraveled and placed side-by-side in chain formation, the chain will be long enough to make 19.2 round trips from the earth to the sun.

Assumptions (for those who want to try this):
5E+22 Si atoms per cubic centimeter
Si atomic diameter = 1.15 angstroms
Average distance from earth to sun = 92,955,800 miles
