997 GT3 test drive video

What a driver! Absolutely amazing control of the drifts on the hairpins.
The video in the official GT3 website, on the other hand, is totally boring.

I want the seats & tach'... lol!

Wow. That is Hot. Looks like it would hand a NSX-R its rear.

I agree... the sounds & aggressive stance sure make it distinguishing! Those are perhaps the best looking race-seats I've seen in a long time. Art & utility! :cool:

I'm not sure you can even make such a comparison between the recently discontinued NSX-R & 997 GT3. The latter's 3.6L & 415bhp obviously are above the NSX-R by a great margin. Doing such a comparison would be like saying the Viper would a hand a NSX-R its rear 0-60 & 1/4. True, but unrealistic comparison!

Why not? NSX-R is based on a "stock" NSX, Porsche GT3 on 911 Carrera. GT3 is naturally aspirated, so is NSX-R. NSX-R is NSX on diet, so is GT3, a 911 Carrera on diet. GT3 have more powerfull brakes, so does NSX-R have. And so on.

But, however, this GT3 is based on a car released in 2005, the NSX-R on a car released in 1990. So it is not fair comparing them all the way :) But I do see the same philosophy behind these great machines :)

Is that the fastest way around a course, by drifting and sliding the ar like in the video?

It's the newest trend. All the F1 guys are going to start driving in that style too. :biggrin: :biggrin:

That's going be fun to watch as long as we can see through the smoke.

Beautiful...... the road, the car, the driver's skill...

On a slippery surface like that, it's faster and easier to drive in drift than grip driving... It usually felt faster and more interesting on grippier surface, but it's actually slower and heating tires up too much.

And if you want to compare NSX VS Porsche
you should compare the Gt3 RS to the NSX-R:biggrin:
Isn't the 997 GT3 supposed to have 480 hp?

Did anyone else notice the revs going up to about 8.5k?:eek:

No, the new 911 Turbo is the 480 hp car :) This GT3 has no forced induction/ is naturally aspirated and have 415 hp :)

no whale tail?!?

Oh man... why not?!? Howabout the 141bhp handicap the NSX-R has... :eek: "If" there was a streetable version of the NSX 3.5L high-compression race-motor, then that'd be on par for a duel w/ the 997 GT3.

Anywayz, here are the numbers to compare/contrast/cry...

2002 NSX-R
* 3.2L Blueprinted V6
* 6spd.
* .32Cd
* Redline (rpm): 8000
* BHP: 276
* Torque: 224ft/lbs.
* Weight: 2897lbs. (Coupe = 3069lbs., NSX-R = 172lbs. less))
* 0-60mph: 4.7
* 0-100mph: 11.2s
* Top: 174mph

[EVO magazine stats: 2003 Car of the Year]

2007 997 GT3
* 3.6L Flat-6
* 6spd.
* .29Cd
* Redline (rpm): 8400
* BHP: 415
* Torque: 300ft/lbs.
* Weight: 3075lbs.
* 0-60mph: 4.1s
* 0-100mph: 8.7s
* Top: 193mp/h

Game. Set. Match. :biggrin:

ahh I was owned!:tongue: I was under the impression that teh Gt3 had as much HP as the turbos but I stand corrected:smile:

Thanks for the ownage:biggrin:

Re: I want the seats & tach'... lol!

what's even cooler is that the driver isn't wearing any nomex suit/driving gloves. He can drop by the local mart to pick up a 6-pack without looking like a doofus. Sorry just an observation :D :D

I was talking about thoughts behind these cars, both are "made for track but streetable" :) That is why they are comparable.

Actually it is Walter Roehrl, former World Championship Rallye, and factory Porsche driver.

Damn Anil - how did you figure that out:confused:

Incredible performance, too bad I don't really care for the looks. Oh that and the fact that a z06 goes for $65k:biggrin:

nice video!

Those roads are EXACTLY like the roads we drive on our biannual Road Trip to the hills around Mulhouse! We drive like that too, but with oncoming traffic in mind of course (so not that much sideways around blind curves. And tyres cost too much to drift like that all the time...).:biggrin:
Anybody interested in going, let me know. :tongue: This year, May 18th tentative. Going: NSX, 2 Lotus Elises, Lotus Exige, Cosworth Sierra, Cosworth Escort, Lotus Seven, VW Beelte diesel:eek: , BMW M3 (old kind).

Little traffic, lots of motorcycles to chase, no police of course. 20 mile long roads. Different ones every day for a week.:eek:
I wonder how many times he spun during that video? A few I'd bet.
I've spun twice, once in the NSX and once in the Cossy. :eek: These great roads are made for it!!! :smile:

Oh man, seeing this video and looking outside tells me summer is coming!!! :biggrin:

oh man, cool video!

I may have had too much sugar today, sorry.

Ok. Cool.
But wouldn’t it be better to compare it to, say, an SOS 3.6 litre NSX with about 380(?) hp. I mean Porsche have done a lot of work over the years to the 911. So have some NSXers.
If we were to produce a stronger block etc, like Porsche have done, bigger brakes have already been done. No problem.
And we can have 11.5 :1 compression over her in the “Euro version” (NSX-R-HC). Big power.
Maybe some suspension mods, uh, no , not necessary because our engine is in the right place.

What would we end up with?
An NSX that could take on the N/A 911s, no?
And our NSXers have super- and turbocharged their cars. With a better block we would be getting about, what, 575hp.
I even see that a 4WD version of the NSX could have been produced, back when everybody else was doing it. Why, I don’t know, but anyway.

Same chassis, just different panels to update the body a little to accommodate the bigger wheels for the 1995 version NSX-Rw and bigger again for the 1998 NSX-R-GT4 version NSX. Carbon brakes introduced in 2001 on the NSX-R-C6.
Cup holders on the 2002 version NSX-BBC (for BigBoy Cruiser).
2003 introduction on the “short” version NSX, slightly less over hang on the front and the trunk length reduced. Standard 3.6 twin turbo 559 hp. No cup holders.

Pity Honda stopped dead in 1991.

So, who knows more about this? A 4 litre engine with 450hp in the, say, 1998 version of The NSX. stripped out a little like the NSX-R maybe? Comparable to the GT3?

Aaah, just dreaming about how it would have been if Honda had a new version every 3 years over the past 15 years. 5 new variants of the NSX. Wow.

How would they compare to the GT3? Or rather, how would the GT3 compare to the NSX? Because that’s what they would be doing…
