My buddy in seattle just bought a 01 996 with eliminator kit, done out very nicely. He drove it about a week before he decided to install an aftermarket CD player. He took it to a reputable install place and a couple hours later they were done. On the way home he noticed his car ran like krap, so he took it to the dealership. 16,000 dollars later, they found the problem. Apparently when the installer drilled through the firewall, he didnt bother to see what was on the other side. He drilled through the ECU and the wiring harness! Now my friend has to wait 45 days for the parts and labour to change everything. Luckily the installers admitted they were at fault and had to front the whole bill plus a 45 day car rental!

Man, that bites. However unfortunate it might be, at least the shop took responsibility for it. It could be worse, if they didn't.

Sounds familiar...I have made some nice paychecks off the "Quality installs" done at seattle area Car Audio shops...

The best one was the Jaguar XJR that had an "Install" done at a well known seattle Audio Dealer...It came to me on a flat bed after 3 weeks at the Install shop and it no longer started, they had drilled thru the wire harnesses in 4 different locations..then after I got it to run ..the SRS light was still on ..so in further inspection I find that they had attached crossover units to the SRS control unit with self tapping screws and destroyed it:mad:

But that was just the beginning..after the owner got the car back on the road, 2 weeks later it gets stolen and after 2 more weeks the cops find it trashed/smashed and abandoned in an industrial area...all the stereo stuff was gone of course..the police found a gas receipt under the seat that was linked to one of the "installers"...:frown:

That happend to my 02 996TT, the shop had worked on high end cars before, inc. Ferrari and Lambos. They screwed right into my main wiring harness while trying to secure a custom panel built to "dress things up". I was porsche less for 2 months. I believe it cost around $12k to fix! They now have the infamous Porsche screw hangin up in the install bay!

do some research before leaving your car with anyone (detailer, mechanic,Installer, ect ect)....the trouble you may save ....may be your own!

It is not like it was some backyard installer, it was a huge outfit. They must do hundreds of cars per week. Probably just some installer rushing to finish before lunch or something stupid like that... oops.. there goes 16 grand
