I've got a 97+ header for my 91 OBD I and like to know what to do best to adapt it to my existing 91 setup?

Question: Should I...

-get 97+ cats and a 97+ muffler?
or
-let a professional modify the header or existing cats (91) at the point both connect?
-get 97+ cats and modify the muffler?

Any help appreciated.

Thomas,
You can go either way, it just depends on how much you want to spend and if you can find the NA2 cats. If you like your exhaust I would just adapt the 97 headers to your system.

I found a complete 98 exhaust system, minus cats, for around $350 and then found a pair of cats. It took me a while to find the cats and they cost me $300 plus shipping.

Thanks, how could I forget. It states that: 'Factory 2000-2005 headers would need to be modified by an exhaust shop to work with these adaptors.'

What modification has to be done? I'm not sure what year my header are. How can I find out?

Brad,
I don't know by now what I'm looking for I have to admit. :) Maybe cats and a custom exhaust. Jsut wondering: Are there any sportcats for 97+? Maybe I'm just too overactive while my holidays and should postpone it. :)

Thanks

i looked into that route but found used OEM NA2 header and SOS adaptor will cost about the same as Pro-1 Headers. So if I do get header I'l just get pro-1's

What about some topspeed headers? A good option at considerably less than $600. Synergy has some in stock.

I run oem 2000 headers and all I've got are adaptors. I bought car this way so I don't don't know mods were done. But it seems to be headers off a 2000, adaptor, 93 cats, 93 exhaust

Taitec not doing it for you?

It does quite a lot for me. :) But if I fail the periodical test (governmental restriction) I have to go a different route. And regarding the torque of my engine it seems to me that all is above 4k rpm and much less below 3k. Ok, maybe a case of fine-tuning with the exhaust. But as I've already the 97+ header lying on the floor I could give it a try.

If you use the SOS header adapter pipes w/ 97-99 headers, they will bolt up directly w/o modification. If you use the adapter pipes w/ 00-05 headers, you will need to have an exhaust shop modify one of the adapter pipes slightly. They will have to cut the adapter pipe, bend it slightly and reweld it to mate up properly w/ one of the 00-05 headers. I don't remember which one, but if you don't modify the adapter in this way, your exhaust will hang a little crooked.

If you don't know which year header you are dealing with, then you will probably need to mount the header w/ the adapter pipes and the exhaust. Then see if anything is hanging off center and modify the adapter pipe that is causing the problem. Sometimes it mates up fine, but most of the time, not.
