97-99 headers with SOS adapters - question

Just finished this install today. Rear is long, Front is short.

Also when you install the front 02 sensor you will see that it is much lower on the front header. This means you have to be a little creative with the wiring. In addition the shield that is bolted to the front beam(for water blockage) will need to be upgraded to the 1997+ shield, or removed, since this will conflict with the new position of the 02 sensor. The problem with removing it is the 02 sensor in very low and exposed to road dirt, water, etc.

PN for the 1997+ shield: 11299-PR7-J00 GUARD, ENGINE (LOWER)

Larry, thanks very much for your expert advise. I have Taitec headers right now and go back to 97+ to pass the noise test with CTSC. I'll be creative with the wiring I hope. :) Right now the wiring routes over the rear head of the engine. Maybe I go with the extensions SOS sells.
My 97+ header already came with complete heat shields.

Gold, the shield he is talking about is not one of the heat shields. It is a separate piece that mounts to the front beam. The 97+ version is shaped differently to allow the front O2 sensor to clear properly.

I'm deep into it now, takes a lot of time and there are some small pitfalls too.

To install the upper heat shield on the rear header the old o2 cable holder had to taken out. Great work if you already torqued the header to specs until you have to release it again.

On the front one I've a problem: the heat shield interferes with the A/C compressor mounting bracket. I guess I'll grind some material off if nobody has a better solution.

I was not sure about the header gasket which was for a 91. The three rivets were touching the header. I drilled them off and mounted them without them. They just keep the three layers together.

Finished it today. It's a lot more silent than the Taitec header (already miss it). I get around 75 dBA in the SR 741.41 noise test. Goal reached. :)
