50km/hr over, Drivers nabbed under new law in Ontario

An article in the Toronto Star on Monday mentioned that the first person to be caught was a guy doing 174 k's on the 401 in a car he just bought 2 days prior. The cop laughed and said the car would be impounded longer then the guy owned it. I'm sure there will be people caught on a daily basis...........Riding back from Shannonville on Sunday I was locked on 140 and everyone was either moving at that speed or passing including the unmarked cop cars moving right along with us. If they want to pull someone over, they will - but it appears that most of us still "cruise" at faster then posted speeds which seem to be way too low for many of us.

I heard the first guy caught was 23. He drove a two-week old Chysler 300. His parents bought him the car.

Some parents are just as guilty as the kids for giving them all the ropes to hang themselves.

You're phucked! Same thing, they will probably get you with other offences as well. I believe Ontario has reciprocating agreements with most other Provinces and some of the Northern States. Cam Wooley will find you

The kid could just have easily been driving the same speed in a rusted out '88 Chevrolet....I doubt being given a car had much to do with his speeding.

With the flow of traffic around Toronto moving pretty briskly anyway, I am curious how far this law goes. The funny thing is that I feel safer driving on 401 and 400 with the flow of traffic around 140 km/h than I do driving in the United States at much lower speeds. It seems like the traffic is more disciplined and smoother in Ontario.
