Hi everybody,

I hope this is the right forum to put this... I'm getting a '93 manual NSX soon and I'm planning on upgrading the transmission - of course I'll drive it for a while first to see if I "really" want to do this. I have read the FAQ's here and a lot of other info on the 5 speed upgraded w/ short gears and the 4.55 r&p. I was just wondering what everones thoughts were on this vs the 6 speed route. Thanks in advance!

6 speed conversion great, but expensive....4:55 gears are no longer avail. unless you find a used set...I am having Titanium Dave in Oregon build me a 5speed with NSX type-r gears with the shorties...I think it will be the most affordable and still fun setup....my 2cents Brent

Short gears and 4.55 is too short IMO. I would go 6-speed all the way. (if money were no object).

NetViper - you think that setup is too short? Just curious why since I know just about nothing. Too much shifting... not enough top end? I'll be doing most of my driving around town and I'd like more pep, but I don't really high rpms (and loud exhaust) on long highway trips - would this setup inhibit me?

Texas91Brent - I'd love to know how much you're paying  .

Somewhere in the 3300-3400 range...I also am building mine for around town. The stock setup, is too slugish for my taste...Brent

You could always do the Short Gears and the Type R 4.23 R/P. Thats what I have and I love it.

I agree. However, if money is an object, I wouldn't make any changes at all.

Here are the engine revs at 80 mph in top gear with the manual transmission NSX:

Stock '91-96: 3441 RPM
'91-96 with 4.55 R&P: 3854 RPM
Stock '97-05: 3168 RPM

(Note that the short gears for the five-speed don't affect revs in the top gear because they don't replace fifth gear, only second through fourth.)

You might find with the SC you don't need short gears as you will have a lot more TQ at the 1-2 shift point. I have never driven one setup that way, so that is just a guess.
