3rd. Official CalCoastalNSX Autocross(Now Semi Annual), Sept 6th. @ Hollywood Park

Dear NSX Club Member: (this is an early announcement, with more details to follow)

Autocross is an inexpensive and relatively safe way to experience racing. The CalCoastalNSX group has created a unique and exciting venue for NSX Club members to experience the true performance of their vehicles in a private, controlled environment. Hollywood Park in Inglewood, California was discovered several years ago by Road & Track magazine as the perfect location to conduct performance tests of the vehicles reviewed by their magazine. Today, this area is reserved most every day of the week by automotive publications, high-performance driving schools, and race teams testing their cars.

Autocross involves navigating your vehicle through a course designated by rubber traffic cones. Your speed through this complex course will be compared with other NSX owners. Awards (as well as bragging rights) will be handed out at the end of the day. Besides the social aspects, this event helps you discover your car's capabilities and limitations, making you a better, safer driver on the road. It also develops your own driving ability. Many would-be race drivers use autocross as a jumping point into the sport of road racing. Probably the greatest thrill of autocross is the challenge of beating your own time. It's fun!

The Third Semi-Annual CalCoastalNSX Autocross and will be held on Saturday, September 6th., 2003 at Hollywood Park, California. Please be sure to arrive in plenty of time for the 8:30 am ish mandatory driver’s meeting and safety briefing. A catered lunch will be served.

There are two classes of competition at the main autocross event. The classes are based on modifications to your vehicle. Any 1991-2002 model NSX is automatically placed into the “touring class” unless:
1.) the car has been modified with either a supercharger, turbocharger, or otherwise produces in excess of 300 rear-wheel horsepower, or
2.) the car is running race tires . In either case, such a car will instead run in the “modified class”.

More pre event info will be available at our CalCoastalNSX Meeting in Santa Monica. You can also pre-register at the meeting, for a sure to be sold out event!

Thanks,
John

Stay tuned for current up to date info on exact cost of the event, sponsors and raffle prizes. Cost is targeted far under a 100bucks. I couldn't wait to let everyone know all the details I have at the moment.

FYI,The electronic timing and course layout are being taken care of by SCCA.

You can now sign up for this event!!!. Use the easy to read, fun to use sign up form. Just print it out, fill in the blanks and send it in with your check(payable to John Richards) or you can pay by Paypal (please add 2.5% to cover the nice paypal fees). AWESOME

I can't miss this one...I was so bummed about missing the last one. Cross your fingers that our game ships on time because I MUST participate.

On an unrelated note, has anyone heard anything from Acura regarding the PV Concours d'Elegance? It falls on the weekend after the autox...and I have a feeling we aren't being invited to display our cars this year.

Eric,

I recently received a flyer for the Concours event, but it was a basic advertisement, along with listing ticket prices, etc. There was nothing there specific to NSX owners or any sort of promotions-related item.

I agree, it sounds like they won't be asking us to display cars this year & may not have anything special geared towards NSX owners.

Marc

Oh no... another possible 5:30am run for the San Diego NSXers. :(

But I'm going to check to see if I can make it!!!

Any other SDers going? This will be my first autocross ever. I've tracked my daily driver on a road course before, but never my NSX. This should be FUN!

Auto X

John, I'm in, time to test the new brake combo. Thanks for having the event a little further south, for all of us from OC/SD we appreciate it the extra hours sleep. Thanks Gil:)

I can't make the dinner meeting but I don't want to miss the Hollywood Park event. I missed the first one this past winter because of a death in the family.

I've autox'ed HP many times and it's a fun surface with great elevation changes. SCCA has lost this site because of the new Walmart being built there in the north lot. So this may be the last autox ever for HP. I know a lot of folks that would kill to get one more run in that lot.

Sign me up!

Not the cones againnnnnn.......

So, just when I am getting to the point where I am not weaving in and out of the orange cones on the road every time I see them, we are going to do this again????
I can't wait.....:D

sounds like this is going to be a "must attend" event.
i'm going to have to break down and send in my 40 bucks to nsxca though.

this is going to be my first autocross event. can somebody please warn the cones?:D

Does this mean that the (Now Semi Annual) Cal Coastal cup for the overall best time of the day is back up for grabs again?

I heard Craig is getting HUGE big brakes, Tiens, and RA1's in time for this event!!!! Watch Out!!! :)

You are correct, the CalCoastal cup is up for grabs. Craig has had the cup for 6mos. and he has a firm grasp on it. Since we have SCCA timing the event with electronic equipment, maybe some of the HOT SHOES should show up and give him and Marc W. some competition!

I forgot to mention(if you didn't already know), this is an NSX only event, with no exceptions!

Thanks,
John

Sounds like all autocross locations are closing down. what's up with that!?

I do the SCCA Solo2 autox every month here. BMW club has them that will let any marque in (if there's room), as well as vette and Porsche clubs doing them. So there are no shortages of events. The only sites that have closed down are El Toro Airfield and - actually - Hollywood Park. Solo went elsewhere for the rest of the year because we were told a Wal-mart is taking the lot. I now hear that the building is postponed till March but our sites are already picked for the remainder of the year. Right now they're Norton, Buttonwillow, and Cal Speedway.

We had a practice at Cal Speedway today in fact, championship is tomorrow.

A few questions:

1. Is a helmet required? What else?

2. If I bring someone, do they have to be a member to drive my car in the event or can they sign on with my membership # ?

3. Is a passenger allowed? Do they have to be a member to sit in the pass. seat with me driving?

Yes. I have 6 NSXCA helmets to hand out.(check the sign up form for details)

Good question. I believe it's not the car that is signing up, it's the driver. So, you need to be a member to drive. I'll check for certain.

3. Is a passenger allowed? Do they have to be a member to sit in the pass. seat with me driving?
Yes, passengers are allowed(there are age restrictions in the sign up form) and no, you do not need to be a member to ride.

From the sign up form
Passengers less than the age of 18 must have parents sign their release.
Passengers under 12 years of age are not permitted in any runs on course. Any exceptions must be specifically approved by the Chief Steward of the Event, or in his absence, the highest-ranking NSXCA officer present at the event.
All participants shall be members of the NSXCA or pay a supplemental entry fee.
Thanks,
John
