3'rd gear grind at 6000rpm,or higher

i had the same problem but it did it at about 4000 rpm...........they had to open the tranny and replace 3rd gear....all of the other gears were fine and it would go into 3rd it just make a clunking or grinding noise while engaging..

A lot of times the gear itself is ok. I'm not sure with the NSX but when you purchase the "synchro", do you get the whole hub and slider assembly etc. all togother? I am only asking because that was the case with my Eclipse. The only gear that grinds going into is 5th gear on my NSX. Thanks, Mo - Elite.

Without resorting to opening up the transmission, the next best thing would be to replace your transmission fluid. There's a possibility that there are metal deposits in your fluid. Another cause might be the shift fork; regardless, sooner or later the transmission will have to be dropped if you intend to alleviate the problem.

If anyone actually bothers clicking on the link in my post above :p , you'll find a complete discussion about the hub selectors, synchros, and gears, and what actually causes this.

Otherwise, you can all keep guessing about what needs to be done.

Having just gone through the same misery myself (and more), I would have to concur with Ken on this one. :(
