after seeing the pictures in this thread http://www.nsxprime.com/ubb/Forum9/HTML/001481.html
i got to wondering...
how difficult would it be to convert the nsx into a 3 seater? i've never seen a completely stripped down interior of an nsx before so i don't know what sections of the chassis would be in the way. is there anything under the center of the dash that can't be moved?
i remember seeing pictures of a fiero chassis modified to accomodate a center driver, but it was completely butchered.

first question is why would u want a 3 seater nsx... you'd be squashed for arm room. the only possible practical reason would be if u wanna take TWO GIRLS for a drive... but we don't go down that alley...

I don't think it would be possible. Not enough width and if you tried to do the McLaren thing, there's not enough length either.

Also, keep in mind that the floor pan isn't flat. There's a significant center structure that's under the console.

NeoNSX

If the two girls in question are not too big it is very well possible to put two girls in the passengers seat. About three weeks ago two friends who asked for a ride to a party declined my offer to swap the NSX for a car with more space because they simply wanted to arrive in the NSX

i went out and measured the interior,
you can get the F1 seating config.. but it would be very tight. both passengers would have the knees right up against the doors and the drivers knees would touch the firewall (is it still called the firewall when the engine is behind you?)... but never the less it can be done.

... but never the less it can be done.

Well, anything can be done with enough time and money, but I don't see anyway reasonably possible that this could be done.

You have the center console and tunnel that would be in the way. The existing seats sit down 4 to 6 inches below the top of the central tunnel.

Sure, you could also make a NSX limo, but there's no way this is a practical or reasonable project.

You know the only "practical" NSX to McLaren F1 look-a-like upgrade is the nose. Now I think a well executed F1 nose that replaced the hood, headlights, fenders, bumper, valance and radiator (plus whatever else needs to move) would be interesting to see.

The rear is tougher as the F1 is very short behind the wheels, and the "look" would be tough to make work, let alone the aerodynamics of the car. The F1 has a longer wheel base and the body is shorter nose to tail than the NSX. Tough work at best.

You could just go the Vemac 320 route and build an entirely new car around the NSX drive train. Or you could buy a Vemac for $160k. Or a reissue GT-40 for $100.

I, probably more than other NSXers, love the car and wish it to be even better than it is, but there are limits. The JGTC NSXs beat race prepped McLarens often, but for us to make our cars into a true JGTC spec car we could buy an F1.

Speed World Challenge shows us that our cars (again with the proper amount of cash infusion) can compete against the best Porsche, Vette and Audi factory supported race cars (in that class). But who among us would trade his NSX for any road going P,V or A? (OK, maybe the 911 Turbo with the 450hp upgrade)

The truth is, we all want 450-500 NSXs with big brakes. Just the way they are, with balance, lots of power, good manners, gas mileage and the mythical something most other cars will never have - class. I think we need to cherish what we have because they may never build another car we can actually afford that has all of those things in one package.

Ranting-sorry!

You don't need an extra seat to fit 2 women in the cabin. What you do need is a standing rule, preferably in the form of a personalized tag, like one i've seen on a lowrider pickup: NOFTCHX
