Okay, so i have an Accusump oil system on my 91 NSX... But i don't really know anything about it....

I recently had an oil change and they put in the stock 5 and a quarter quarts of oil...

Do i add 3 more quarts of oil for the Accusump?

yep depending on how much extra the capasity was increased.

if it was increased an addition 3 quarts for storage, you would be putting in 8 quarts.

the dip stick is your best friend.

the pick up point for the oil has not changed, thus i would use the oil drip stick as a gauge to how much oil is needed.

Also i wuold drain out the Accusump since it stores oil.

happy motoring

Rob

Thanks much, i appreciate it!

Here is what I do... empty oil pan. Turn ignition (not start the car) on and hit the switch for the Accusump. Let it drain again. Fill it to 7 qts. Start car and hit the switch for the Accusump and let it fill. Turn off car and check the dip stick. Add until just below the full mark.

I have the 3 qt Accusump. Oil pan, Accusump and the hose to the trunk ends up being exactly 8 qts for me (pan 5.3 + 2 Accusump + .8 hose/etc).

Beautiful! That's exactly what i needed! Thanks

Not sure if I follow. Before turning the engine off, you are supposed to rev the engine beyond the VTEC (you can do this on street driving not necessarily at the very end)l this actually brings oil from the Accusump. Then you turn the Accusump off to keep the oil pressure or prime the engine for when you strait the engine again next time. Hence checking the dip stick will show a level higher than the full mark no?

In my case with the 3 qts Accusump, it is well over the full mark after this process - which is consistent with oil pressure showing about 25-30 before turning the engine.

I have the 60 psi electric valve. But really anything over 3k rpm will fill the Accusump. Before I turn the car off (while driving I turn the switch off) this keeps the oil in the Accusump. Otherwise you turn the car off or idle and it senses low pressure and dumps into the engine.

So if I check the dip stick, it should read 5.3 qts as the rest (2 qts + whatever is in the line) is in the Accusump under pressure (valve was closed before idle / low pressure). If you forget to turn the switch off before turning the car off or idling then yes it will read way high as the Accusump is empty as it dumped the oil into the engine.

BTW: My Accusump gauge shows 80 when it's full. Since it is keyed to the ignition. Once the car is off and ignition is off, I turn the switch back on (but it doesn't open the valve - needs the switch ON and ignition ON) so as soon as I turn the ignition on next time it primes the engine automatically.

True. But the Accusump has two functions. One is to dump oil when the pressure goes low during tracking, the second is to prime the engine prior to starting it. Why not use the second function before your turn the switch off? The symphony of revving the engines in our NSX paddock draws quite a lot of curious attention.

BTW, mine two is tied to the ignition and is activated by the cruise control button.

You have the 60psi valve. Some of us DO not have this valve.
I do not have this valve and nether does Hrant.
If you don't have a pressure valve you should rev the engine to say ~4k-5k
for 20-30 seconds and let the accusump fill.
Shut the valve and let it idle for a few seconds.
Turn it off and check the fill. The accusump should have ~80 psi.
