Typically you do get grinding with bad synchros but it depends on what is wrong and how worn it is. There are very few other things which would affect only one gear. If it were clutch-related you would probably have the same problem at least to some degree in other gears. It's certainly worth checking your clutch fluid, transmission fluid and looking for any leaks, etc. In fact if you change your transmission fluid it may even help reduce the symptoms somewhat (but it will not fix the root of the problem).


Yes it will get progressively worse. How fast that happens depends how much you put wear on it. If you keep rev-matching all your shifts it will get worse slowly.


It doesn't affect anything else directly. If you do not rev match and your synchros are bad and you keep forcing it into gear it can cause other problems but if you rev-match well it'll be OK.
