Honda is quietly confident the new NSX will outperform the R35 Nissan GT-R.

The team at Holiday Auto (Japan) are working very hard to bring the latest news about the upcoming Acura NSX and their latest report includes one or two surprises. The first of which is the 5.5L V10 engines adoption of VCM (Variable Cylinder Management) which is a direct result of increasing oil prices and Honda’s own desire not to be seen as a manufacturer which has no regard for the environment when it comes to high performance cars. Apparently the new 5.5L V10 will use VCM to shut down one bank of cylinders in constant speed driving situations which will reduce its capacity to 2.75 liters. The new V10 will be manufactured on a special line at Honda’s new factory in Saitama prefecture. Torque has been confirmed at 60.0kg/m and a massive output of 600ps through all four wheel is expected to be produced. You could say that the V10 is basically a 10 cylinder version of the LE-A 4500cc V8 which will power the next generation Acura RL, although the ‘V’ angle of the V10 will be 90 degrees whereas the V8 will be 72 degrees, making the NSX’s V10 truly unique. Special pistons and conrods, as well as a dry sump and fully balanced internals are other features of the new V10. The body of the NSX along with the RL will be assembled by specially trained craftsmen at a new plant being built in Ogawamachi, the reason being to allow parts sharing between the two models and to enable the same high level of build quality.

The other surprise is that Holiday Auto suggests the 5.5L V10 may make an appearance in a special Acura RL model! It remains to be seen whether such a car would affect the image of the NSX or not; you could say that a V10 RL would become a “4-door NSX” of sorts if it ever made it to production.

Despite a comprehensive equipment list and the heavy SH-AWD drivetrain the NSX is still expected to tip the scales at just under 1500kg. For a big two seater coupe that kind of weight is worth noting, especially considering the incredible performance of the much heavier Nissan GT-R. The aerodynamic package of the NSX is said to include front fender slits which will help expel air from the engine bay and reduce lift, as well as and underbody design incorporating the front bumper, side skirts and rear diffuser which will also help direct air from the engine bay and channel it under the car to the rear diffuser. Using knowledge obtained from their Formula One program the underbody aerodynamics in conjunction with the rear spoiler will dramatically reduce lift and add downforce which is said to make the car extremely stable at speeds up to and over 300km/h. The Acura NSX will follow its predecessor and have different sized wheels and tires, with Bridgestone RE070R 255/30R19 up front and 295/35R20 at the rear.

As far as performance is concerned, the natural rival of the NSX is the R35 Nissan GT-R but this is not to say that it will be priced and optioned in a similar fashion. The upcoming Acura NSX is expected to sell for around 16,000,000 yen and its true rivals are said to be the Jaguar XKR and Aston Martin Vanquish. This of course means that the NSX will have much higher standard materials and fit and finish compared to the previous NSX and buyers will certainly feel that the asking price is justified. Being a true luxury sports car won’t impede on its abilities at the circuit though, once the Nissan GT-R’s time of 7:29.00 at Nurburgring has been achieved Holiday Auto say Honda are sure to continue on and try for a time faster than the Nissan GT-R Spec V!

If these renderings are vaguely correct, it looks like, for all practical purposes... Honda has given us a revamped version of the ASCC (or is it AASC? Oh, who cares!). If the editorial speculation about the price is accurate... Goodbye NSX. Hello GTR.

Waited TEN YEARS... for this? No thanks!

that's not bad. guys.

but i feel it's more likely a luxury coupe to compare to LF-A, aston martin, or M6. unlike a pure sportcar.

wut u guys think. the front part is pretty good, but rear part is kinda ugly. i mean the exhaust design=ugly.

naw. 2005-2010 isn't 10 yrs.

Yes, that exhaust is ridiculous, so terrible. It does not relate to any of the car's style. The dimensions and weight have defied everything the NSX stood for. Otherwise it is a nice looking rendering for a GT. I can aspects of the NSX and ASCC in it. Sounds good, too bad it messed up the formula, lightweight and low slung. They should just call it the RL coupe. The inline 5 idea sounds interesting. Wonder what the other supposed, new Acura coupe will be weigh in and measure at.

I also like how none of the renderings show a full side profile. I guess they are afraid to show the length of the long hood.

That's interesting, the V10 usually run on 72 degrees to avoid vibration problem, and V8 usually run on 90 degrees.

Hey! Look at that, it's the Lexus 370z...Ha--wait what?

Seriously, the first renderings were really nice, this one makes it look kind of like the new SC460 instead of just the Supercar replacement from Honda.

This car nearly doesn't look long enough to give the Supercar look. For the LFA for instance, it's long, and maybe longer or shorter than this, from any profile, it does look like it belongs on the dancefloor with Ferrari and Lamborghini....Unfortunately, all i can think of is that this should have been the body for the S2000 and go up against the 370z....for it to be a supercar, i don't have a problem with the FR set up, but this isn't looking the part for me.

I know it's a rendering right now, but I guess we'll see how wrong I am?

honestly, I hate it. looks horrible. I don't care if its faster than the GTR or not, would never buy one(Assuming I had the money) nothing appealing about it. Honda spent all this time to design a supercar, and thats what they came up with...wow

If Honda would have just venture to make something like this, I would take that over the current $150,000 halo car any day. Maybe they will explore the mid-engine car again in the $50k-$60k range once the halo car hits. This Lotus even has back seats, odd for a mid-engine car. I wonder how much this will weigh...
Performance should be heady, with the slushbox Camry making the sprint from rest to 60mph in under six seconds, the new Lotus sports car should be able to do the same feat in well under five. The company also claims a 160mph top speed for the car.

It was made 18 years ago. You have one, it's in your avatar:biggrin:

People, you need to wake up an realize that the NSX is DEAD! Please, for the love of GOD, stop posting what you think is going to be the next NSX.

So what would you do if Honda does name it NSX?

Yea, I know. That's what I was going for. Sounds like the same specs and all, minus the rear seats. It's a great formula. I don't know why they needed to change it. Atleast Lotus still has the balls to make low slung, mid engine cars.

I hear ya, I prefered MR too but since it's not going to happen, I'll be happy to take any layout as long as it will eat up any regular model Ferrari or Porsche.

It looks mean. It looks meaner than the GTR or the NSX. It looks better than the GTR. Good!

It looks mean.

Maybe I don't get "mean"? If I had to pick a word to describe their design inspiration - "Shoe box"

If Honda told me these photos were the new replacement for the CRX... I would think Honda was the coolest car company in the world!!!!

Or if Honda told me this was a $39,000 IS350 fighter... I would agree that Honda did a great job on the look and design...

But...when I think of NSX replacement, or "mean" I usually have something more like this in mind. SORRY HONDA YOU GET A BIG ZERO ON THIS DESIGN as a HALO CAR :( (remember in the 90's when they talked about design influence being a fighter jet? now that's "mean")

Buy a Ferrari.

Therefore, you wouldn't buy a Ferrari since this new Honda is going to Front AWD layout, but if Honda name it NSX, you will buy a Ferrari?:confused::confused::biggrin:

Agree, the new design sux!

But the truth is, they may never be able come up with a design that can top the original NSX.

They might as well remake the old NSX and give it a shiny body and new interial, it will sell more.

My heart is bleeding, gosh...

They did with updates (some may argue not the right ones), super gt NSX's were given completely different innards.

edit: the rear is very 350z, yes i know it may be/is all concept art tomfoolerly.
