wondering what you all think would make a better daily driver.
a new 2008 subaru wrx sti (they are a hatch this time) - or a 1992 or 93
nsx in the 35,000 range (in other words a nice clean one).
i think the nsx wins the looks, image, comfort, resale, and racing fantasy categories.
the wrx wins the maintenance, quickness and traction categories.

but which would you rather drive to work? i think a black wrx hatchback might make a nice low profile all year round fast car. on the other hand, it might not be as much fun as my nsx...

I would rather drive the STI daily because I love the rush of turbo cars but mainly because I know my beloved NSX would be covered in the garage out of the path of other careless daily comuters.

Is this going to be your only car, or 2nd, or more cars?

I'm not sure of the gearing or suspension of the '08 WRX which both have a huge impact on DD ride comfort, but I would probably choose something else-- A Honda Fit maybe:smile: (half the price, half the gas) . If this would be your only car, the Legacy GT might be a good choice too.

I love my NSX, but it doesn't get driven much.

i have a 1992 NSX, a 1988 landcruiser. wife has a 2006 X3.
if i did not drive my NSX to work it would rarely get driven
because i am in the landcruiser all weekend.
my problem is that my NSX gets too much attention.
my wife dislikes the NSX because she says she gets carsick the way i drive it.
i was thinking i could sell the landcruiser and buy the subaru, put mud/snow tires on it and use it to get up to ski areas in winter, also could use it for long trips that i would not take my NSX on. if i was real slick i might talk the wife into trading in the X3 for the subaru...maybe i will try that!
basically i am not limited so much by money as by parking spots.
the CCR's in my neighborhood preclude me from having more than 3 cars at my house. i even considered buying the home across the street so i could have their garage.

If you will take the car to the track, get the STI. If not get the Legacy GT or some other 4WD sports sedan with a somewhat compliant ride and decent gas mileage. The extra HP, big brakes and tighter suspension are wasted on commutes. IMHO

\/ \/ \/ \/ \/ I agree, Audi S4 would be a good choice

I'd rather drive an Audi S4...which is why I bought a used one vs a new STi. Great daily...awd is good for winter and I don't get the racer boy looks at every light. Oh, and V8 torque is nice to drive around town.

I daily drove my NSX for about a year, it was fine and all, but there's the whole two seat limit thing that doesn't fly if you have a family.

that is not my wife.
that is Jana, an NSX Prime member named Andrea supplied the pics years ago.
Andrea i think is Italian.
Can you provide a link to a full-resolution version of the photo?

i'd rather save some bucks and buy a wrx thats a few years old... the 08 is just butt ugly.

sti is so ugly.

if you want to be ordinary like the other 10000000 other rice boys out there get a sti.

Nothing more boring than a STI meet. All the same bread box design as far as the eye can see.

We work on them all the time. Work on a sti is expensive and time consuming considering the horizontally opposed engine design. It takes 1 hour to change 4 spark plugs:biggrin:

Its the difference between classy and ..... fugly.

Get the NSX, its a great daily driver and its EXTRAordinary.

Happy motoring

For under 35k, I went with a new Lexus IS350 for a Daily Driver. Stock vs stock it will out accelerate the '92 NSX and I'm sure your wife would probably prefer it over both the NSX and the sti.

If you have considered an Sti then you may consider the evo as well. I daily drive one for a year a half now, love it. And better if you have problem resisting the mod bug, it is very cost effective -- basic bolt-on and it's easily 300awhp and wtg as well. Remove the wing and keep the stock look, gets no attention at all, well...until you're jumping on the gas. But watch out for the insurance rate :)

I have heard that, ohhhhhh about every time we take the car out. Too funny:biggrin: That is the time I pull over and hand her the keys so I can get sick to my stomach, thinking of the cost of clutch and brake replacement the way she drives it..... Love her to death, but she needs some help with the clutch and brake application.

+1 ^

my wife will not want to be seen in a boy racer car with huge wings. In her younger days, she enjoys riding in my ITR very much.

Where did you see pictures of the 2008 WRX STi? The only pictures I've seen (such as in the August 6 Autoweek) are of the plain jane WRX. I thought the STi version isn't out yet and I haven't seen photos yet.

(FWIW, I think the pre-2008 STi is darn butt ugly too.)

IMHO it can't be any uglier than the pre-2008 STi. Unless they decided to make it look exactly like a Pontiac Aztek.

Take a good look at mine the next time we're at the track Ken. You can get a good look of the front of the car in your rearview mirror as I come screaming up behind you, and then check out the sides as I pass you. I'm not sure if you'll see the rear bumper and wing-- the dust and clag that spew out in my wake might obscure your vision. If you miss me the first time around, you'll have more chances to catch a glimpse of me going by during the session.

Needless to say, looks are an acquired taste. (The 'Aztek'? That's a low blow!)
