Is the 1997 shop manual the one that would apply to a 2002 NSX +2002 supplement?

Nimbus, I'm not so sure. They sell the shop manual (service manual) for the '97 for $99. I ***THINK*** this item that you're pointing to is ONLY a supplement for $38 - in other words, it contains only the changes that were made since the '97 manual was published. I don't think it includes the entire service manual, which Newton would still need.
If that's not true, why would they be selling it for only $38, when the '97 service manual sells for $99?

I have the 2002 supplement and nsxtasy is correct, it's only a supplement. It appears the last full service manual was for the 1997 model year. Anyone have other knowledge?

Try looking in your 2002 Service Manual Supplement. I have the 1996 Supplement. On the very first page, "Introduction" under "How to Use This Manual" mine specifically says "Refer to the 1995 NSX & NSX-T Service Manual".

Well the 2002 Supplement says:
Refer to the 2001 service manual, 2000 service manual, 1999 service manual, 1998 service manual, and 1997 service manual for service procedures and data not included in this supplement.
That's a lot of service manuals to buy. I don't see any listings for any of these years, only the 1997 and earlier.

I'm still holding off ordering my 2002 manual so I don't have first hand experience if it is indeed the complete manual.
Based on the description from Helm, "over 1000 pages of detailed repair instructions...", it just sounds to me it would be the full manual. But like you stated, for $38 it looks too good to be true compare to the 97 manual that costs $99.
What you are refering to is a Supplement.
I have it. It only refers to changes for 2002.
Helm lists 2001,2000,1999, and 1998 as Supplements. Only the 1997 is a full Service Manual.

NSX-00054 is correct. Even though the 2002 supplement refers to the "service manual" for 1998 through 2001, they apparently don't exist except in supplement form.
I am now quite confident that if you have a 2002 NSX, all you need is the 1997 service manual ("shop manual" on the Helm site) plus the 2002 supplement.
(Yes, the notation regarding the other years of service manuals is confusing. Yes, the website seems to imply that the supplement consists of 1000+ pages but I think that's because their computer system just uses the same generic wording for hundreds of different models and years of cars without customizing the wording for every year and whether it's a supplement or a full service manual. Don't worry about it...)
