2 disk clutch or 1

Is 2 disk clutch better then the new 1 disk clutch??

2 disk simes that would grab better but all the new NSX have only 1 disk and more HP on the crank. Why Honda would do that? Is the clutch pedal harder on 97+ ?

I just need to replace my clutch and I don't know should I get a performance clutch or just replace the disks...

Thanks,

I had the 2-disk clutch in my hands, and the first reason i can think off is weight reduction!

Besides less overall weight, and even more important, is the fact that the weight is closer to the centerline of the crank and therefore requires less power to spin and it responds quicker.

They probably went to a single for a variety of reasons, but partly because some people have trouble engaging the dual disk smoothly. A poor excuse IMHO, but they needed to sell more cars to people who are not particularly skillful in that area. Anyway, more rotational mass makes it simple to take off from a stop, which is largely the purpose of a heavy flywheel in most cars.

Can you remove 2 disk clutch and install a single disk clutch on a 5-speed gearbox? I think this will improve performance if it is doable

You would at least need the matching flywheel, and probably the throw-out bearing and other stuff, but I think you would get a performance decrease in most respects. It might be simpler to launch off the line and chirping the tires into second, but after that you pay for it throughout the rev range. Generally speaking, it sounds like taking a step backwards. Most people spend big $ getting a smaller, lighter package.
