I am going to the track next weekend. I am new to this and have never ran before. I have a 99 NSX-T, 6spd. The only work I have done to the car is add 4.55 gears and a Progrip2 clutch from Comptech. I am running completely stock otherwise and even have my factory Yoko's on. My question is when I run do I leave the TCS on or off ?? And, what is a good RPM to drop the clutch on out of the hole. I don't want to blow the rear or sit there spinning. Thanks for the help !!!

I am not getting that extreme to be taking out the pasenger seat and spare. It's just for fun with some friends. At
3000-3500rpm I didn't think I'd hook up?

First, you must turn off the TCS. Next, you should do a tire smoking burn out in second gear (bring up the revs to 6,000 RPM and dump the clutch then immediately apply brake pressure to hold the car still until you see smoke) to heat up the tires before you stage. This sounds more dramatic and hard on the car then it really is. The OEM Yoko’s work well if you heat them up. Next, you’ll have to try different launch RPM’s. 3000 sounds about right, but with the 4.55 gears (versus 4.06) you have more torque and may find that you should launch at a lower RPM. Also, my experience is that you are better off bogging then burning. Even with a bad bog, I achieve a 2.1 second 60’ time. My best launch is a 1.86 60’ time. However, if I burn, my 60’ time goes to 2.3 to 2.4. I’ve been running my car for two years and have not blown anything. These cars are built strong. In fact, that’s a large part of what you paid for.

Also, while I'm not sure there is a benefit to removing the seat, it is important to remove the spare tire. That both reduces weight and shifts the weight transfer more on the rear tires.

Good luck at the track.

Dave.

Question for all,

Do you think that running your car at the drag strip accelerates clutch wear? I know that there is normal wear from just driving; I'm talking about toasting or dramatically shortening clutch life?

Comments???
