Guess what ? I have a bad drivers side cv joint. I have always heard a clunk when I accelerate, then let off. Once I had the tires off I turned the drivers side disk clockwise and counter clockwise and there was play and noise.

The questions: Do I really have to buy the whole cv axel or can I take this puppy apart? Can I buy the parts to rebuld it? Where can I buy the parts, either the total cv joint or the parts to rebuild. My local dealers are clueless. I will need these things fast.

Did I read correctly, that I should be doing the rear main seal while I am in the clutch? Hopefully, I can buy the rear main seal from the same place I get the cv parts.

Last, are there any other parts I may need to replace, or should replace?

CV joint does come apart. Not sure if the separate parts are available individually.... I don't think they are. I wouldn't worry about the main real seal unless you got really high miles or are experiencing a leak.

I just did the clutch and CV joint and didn't replace any thing else other than the drivers side drive axle seal ( I damaged it ), CV joint boots and grease, clutch, throwout bearing, and axle nut. Think that's about it.

If you disassemble the CV joint, follow the book carefully.

Best place to buy parts is Ray Laks Acura. You'll need to speak to JR at (716) 826-4109.

Don't forget to change all your boots while your are there.
I didn't and had to do it a few miles later.
What a drag.

i might post some pics from my joint cleaning.
Turned out noise was from the trans.

you can rebuild the cv joints up to a point.

if the CV boot is ripped and you got less then 20 hours on that joint, it would be usually ok to take apart the joint and bearings and clean and regrease them.

if the cv join is at a point where its clunking and making clicking noises, its beyond a regrease/quick rebuild. dependingon cost of OEM parts, it might be cheaper to just get a 'new' remanfac axle.

Please post where a person gets these reman. parts!
Thanks
