1976 Accord Road Trip - TX, AK, TN, VA, PA

I found and purchased a very clean 1976 Honda Accord, 3 door, 5 speed Hatch in San Antonio TX.

I'm flying to San Antonio this Sunday night and driving the 27 year-old Accord home to the Philly area.

I'll be driving through Dallas, Little Rock, Nashville, Oak Ridge, Roanoke on my way home.

If anyone would like to get together for a snack, meal, chat, whatever, drop me a line.

You'll also get a chance to see a bit of history. Those old Accords usually are all rusted away...but I like them for some odd reason.

It sounds like a nice adventure.

How many miles are on that Accord? Is it one of those record breaker Accords with 400k miles?

I just flew in to San Antonio this evening and picked up my new (well 27 years old new

) Accord.

I purchased it from the original owner who took very good care of it these past 27 years.

He was sorry to see this old member of his family leave, but as he said, they know it's going to a good home. The owner had every receipt (a manila folder about 2 inches thick) changed the oil every 3K miles and also recorded every tank of gas, mileage and cost of ownership per mile.

Really nice guy and family. Interestingly enough he has a daughter who is attending college and I realized as I met the family - that this young woman has never known a time without this vehicle being a part of their household.

I plan to keep this one all original (as opposed to my other first generation Accord - see web site link below) and I'll continue to restore those things that need attention.

The car has just over 200,000 miles and it's on the second engine.

I'll post some digital pics over the next few days of my trip home.

Again, if there's anyone along the route of San Antonio, Dallas, Little Rock, Memphis, Nashville, Knoxville, Roanoke, Philly who wants to plan to meet up for dinner, lunch, etc, drop me an email or respond to this forum. I'll check it each night over the next few days of my trip.
