Hi guys,
I know it has been discussed to death that the front wheel should be no more than 8 inches. Since there are always people who are more adventurous and would go as wide as 8.5 inches. I want to ask specifically the owners of 18x8.5 front wheels their experiences with such size. Has anyone used something like et 45mm and how badly they rub?
So this thread is not about one should or should not use 8.5 inches but is an inquiry about users' experiences.
Thanks,
Steve

Works for me just fine and thanks for posting this. I can count on one hand how many times its rubbed on the inside upon full lock and during an obscure articulation. My 235s track set rubs much more. Tire size tends to be the biggest issue. I will not be able to run a 225 unless I raise the car.

18x8.5 +42 215/35/18 lowered ~1.8" in front.

I'd agree with that.

Great. Thanks for the info. My car is lowered with just Eibachs and I am eyeing a 18x8.5 et45 front application with 215/35/18. Looks like it might work. The other option is 18x8 et35 but I don't like to run any front wheel below et38mm.
Thanks again.
Steve

There is a chance that you may rub on the front plastic horizontal vent fins behind the A/C condenser fans. That piece of plastic tends to warp on some cars and can be cause of rubbing as well. You're at the very limits with a 18x8.5...

I had a 18x8.5 +45 rim with a 6mm - 1/4 inch spacer making it a 18x8.5 +39 or so. It rubbed on the fins as RYU mentioned at certain slopes or full lock sometimes. Not a huge issue and it looks quite aggressive.

Would someone be willing to post a few pictures of a 18x8.5 +45 with 215-35-18? I would like to see how flush they are. I have been wanting to run this setup in the front for a long time and like the OP just want to make sure it will work with a slight drop.

best i can do for now. i seriously need to take some current pics. tire wall on a 215 is not as vertical as some would prefer...

Can you provide specifics abt that setup?
Brand, size(s) of wheels and price? That's an 18 front / 19 rear?
I'm looking for new wheels and those look great...

Those wheels are no longer available.

Enkei RPF1 type RC

18x8.5 +42

19x10 +27 if my memory is correct.

If you are looking at wheels, shoot me a PM, maybe I have something for you?

Thanks Wil.

Mitch, sorry for the late reply. Wil was able to setup a nice set of LMs for an owner recently. Very similar fitment. He can hook you up.

18X9 +38..215/30/18. Dumped on Bilstein coilovers. Rubs only on very steep angles. Planning to run 18X9.5 and raising front by 1/4 to .5". Here's an older pic..and not for the squimish.
