Me too.

But really what are they doing for $1200? Too cheap to be a timing belt / waterpump service. Too expensive for Plugs and fluid change.

What is in the 60k service? Can you list it? I know that the coils are not cheap at all and if you are replacing them that costs a pretty penny as in the part cost. Can you break down what the parts and labor is? Then we can get a better idea of what it is. Something doesn't sound right.....you might have gotten estimates of other things wrong with the car or other things that need replacement or repair. But like I said I don't know what your estimated invoice says.

Also you should have spoken to Jon Martin the Service Director there if you had any questions.

When it comes to an NSX, you dont want to mess around. Take it to someone who knows the car in and out. Go to Ramon at Niguel Motors. Heres the addy again if you're too lazy to scroll up

I agree with all of the above...
First off, what are they doing for the 60K service? Most people do the timing belt/water pump before the scheduled time.

Autowave in Huntington Beach will be a trusted place.
NIGUEL MOTORS - Also awesome. The least expensive

I wouldn't trust Cerritos unless they've hired a new NSX mechanic in the past year. Many dealerships don't have the expertise to properly deal with the NSX.

Just my $0.02

I think typically a 60k service consists of

lube,oil,filter
fuel filter replacement
transmission drain and refill
valve adjustment
spark plugs with associated gaskets and seals

I had mine done for roughly 800 at Greenlight Honda in San Diego

First of all Jon Martin the Service Director (NSX Specialist) is the service Director there.

He has a few guys that are the guys who will work on the car only.

I am still waiting to see if $1200 is only for the 60k service only and not other deferred maintenance or recommended services.

Jon Martin is the only guy I recommend first hand to. I am not discounting any other guys like Ramon or Autowave because they are great guys too. But I myself go to him for service and mods on my car. He has treated me well and has saved me money on service and parts many times.

As I stated before please share the breakdown of the costs of what the estimate says. And if you did have any questions about the estimate you should have talked to Jon about it.

$1200 is not out of line for a 30K/60K/etc service (which does NOT include the timing belt). Typical charges are $800-1000 at an independent shop, $1000-1300 at a dealer.

Well I hope that answers your question Nick and welcome by the way. There is also Rob at speed oracle that is another alternative....we are lucky to be in so cal with a lot of options to choose from.

thanks guys for your comments.... cerritos did also so the tb/wp, they charged me 1850 for that...

the 1200 was for 60k service which i think i got jacked on cause it was just fluids and maybe a valve adjustment...

but i did this to a car i just bought off of ebay and i wanted the dealer to make sure it was straight.

thats a lot. whats with the crazy prices?! We could have done your TB for a couple of hundred more. If they charged you an additional 1.8K for the tb that is silly becuase the TB job just about covers ALL the 30k maintaince....

we got Arthur's (artmira) out the door for 510$ for his 30K on his 2003 3.2L.

with a complete brake system, clutch and coolant system flush to boot...

lets bring down the "typical" 1000-1200$ 30/60K costs to something more reasonable.

Sorry, i was not able to post sooner and help you save about 1500$, taking a week off from work to do some long overdue go fast upgrade to my own cars.

Happy motoring:smile:

Lube + Filter = $50 tops with synthetic + 30 minutes max
Fuel Filter Replacement = $50 + 30 minutes max
Transmission = $30.00 max + 30 minutes
Spark Plugs = $50 max + 30 minutes.
Valve adjustment = $50 (tool?) + 1 hour.

50 + 50 + 30 + 50 + 50 = $230 in parts (MAX)

Doing the work yourself (which is not complicated, except maybe the valve adjustment which I would take to someone good..) - Priceless -

There are many things that money SHOULDN'T buy, and paying the dealer for 4 hours worth of work at $300 / hour is one of those.

Seriously though, I say be brave, have fun, and try doing the jobs yourself. Afriendly NSX guru on the phone comes in handy...

Although it's frightening at first I know... When I got the NSX about a year ago.. I had never done an oil change (seriously), and was at first looking for the oil drain plug in front of the car (no joke)... Almost a year later and I've done multiple oil changes, brake pads (took about a week), spark plugs, ripped apart the interior multiple parts, taken the headers/exhaust and other lower engine parts apart... and only made a few costly mistakes  but that costs is far less than what the dealer would have ever charge me. And it's been extrodinarely lots of fun.

Good luck! Shoot, bring your car to my house and I'll do that for $600 in a day! Best $600 I would make :) (well not really..)

There are a lot of reasons many people don't do the work themselves. Some people don't have the place to do it. Some don't have the tools. Some don't have the time. Some don't want to risk running into a problem and having to stop in the middle to find someone to give them advice on how to handle it. And some simply wouldn't enjoy it, which is probably the best reason of all.

If you enjoy working on your own car, great! You can also save a lot of money that way. If you think you might want to try it, go for it! But if you would prefer to let a professional do the job (with the confidence that he/she will do the job right the first time), and you don't mind paying someone else for the labor, by all means do so. Taking your car to the dealer or an independent mechanic is certainly a valid option worth considering, for whatever reason.

Good point, I agree with you.

I don't want to be insinuating that paying for quality mechanical work is of no value. For some, that means paying an expert to do a transmission and engine rebuild..... for other it's paying someone for standard maintenance.

I guess as long as the person feels like they are getting their moneys worth is all that matter.

I forgot to mention that a coolant flush is also included in the 60K service. The main reason I don't work on my own car is that I usually don't have the time nor the proper tools.

Not necessarily.

Honda's maintenance schedule for the '91-96 NSX recommends that the coolant be flushed every 30K miles or two years, whichever comes first, starting at 45K miles or three years. So, according to that schedule, you would be flushing the coolant at 45K miles or 3 years, then again at 75K miles or 5 years, etc. So at that point, it's not a part of the 30K/60K/etc service.

However, there are times when the coolant gets flushed anyway. For example, at 90K miles or 6 years, they recommend that you replace the timing belt. When you replace the timing belt, you usually replace the water pump. And when you replace the water pump, you flush the coolant. So, if you're following their recommendations, you would continue to flush the coolant every 30K miles or 2 years thereafter, which would line up with the 120K/150K/etc services.

Good point, I guess my car happened to be due according to the time interval from the last service which for me turned out to be 60K.
