Hello all, That little crapy and very $$$ fan started to make more noise than the engine so rather than fix it again I took a hammer and put it out of its pain. Radio Shack has a little ball bearing $9.95 fan that worked fine (so far). You need to put a 100 ohm resister on to quiet it down. Also get a little longer mounting screws and open up the new fan side mount holes. Dan

Dan, was it a relatively easy DIY? If so, would you consider submitting the instructions to Lud for posting on the DIY page? I've tried the compressed air trick, but it hasn't silenced my fan. Thanks.

Well, the car is put back together so I will not be able to get a picture (worth a thousand words) to you. I will send Lud somthing to work with. Dan

Yea i had that same noise and took the center dash apart and it was the little fan... OPPS i just disconected it and removed it totally.

Wounder what that little fan acually does..

Wounder what that little fan acually does..

From the FAQ:

[A/H] The fan does draw air over a temp sensor. The fan goes on when ever the key is on. When dust gets on the fan impeller the it gets off balance. This causes the fan to make noise. Sometimes the noise will go away by taking off the panel and blowing off the dust, sometimes the bearings will still make noise and the unit needs to be replaced.

Ok, here goes. You have two sheet metal screws that hold the the fan/sensor assembly to the back of the dash. Pull apart the 4 wire plug and get a short phillips sd to remove. On the fan side of the assembly remove the two little machine screws and the fan will fall apart in your hand. Don't panic, just throw it away after severing the fan wires. You are now at the point of no return with this project. Hold the Radio Shack 1 1/2" ball bearing fan (pn #273240) up to the mounting hols of the temp sensor and you will see they do not match. Silicone seal will work or you will need to cut slots in the fan holes and find little tiny screws. As with many things in life make sure you have suck/blow thing going in the right direction. You want to pull the air over the sensor and thru the fan. I am showing restraint here. The fan must have the positive to positive to run so you need to turn on the key and stick the wires in to find out what works. Put a 2w 100ohm resister on one of the leads to tone down the voltage or you will hear twin engines when you drive. Thats it in a nut shell. One thing (here is the disclamer), though a similar fan in my computer has run for three years now I have not tested this more than several hours. Good luck to all, Dan

temp sensor?

What does this sensor do or what does it control? Does this have to do with the climate control... Im lost now. LOL

I removed the whole thing about 4 months ago and havent seen anything differnt.... knock on wood.
