05 knob onto 94 w/ stock boot

I bought an 05 knob to go onto a 94 with a stock boot. How is the boot supposed to attach to the bottom of the knob? The 05 is a screw on type. The 94 knob had clips on the bottom.

If you want to keep the stock boot, you can buy a clip that is made for attaching the old style boot for about $30. I think most people buy a type R boot or a used one from a later model cause it looks better then with the clip. I have the R boot and like it. Check the parts for sale section, they both show up occasionally.
