Driving down Las Olas Blvd last night in Fort Lauderdale...I glance over and see a BEAUTIFUL 2003 Yellow NSX parked on hte other side of the street!!

I was in awe, but apparently a couple of adults passing right by the 03 NSX in a horse drawn carriage were more in awe with my car as they started yelling, waving and taking pictures of my car...

Kind of an ego boost, especially considering a brand new NSX, which I LOVED, fell to mine in their eyes.

(I owe it to the lowering, Racing Harts, and ummm, thats all)

Sorry to post this but I had to get it out!! :D

Although I still haven't seen a `02+ in person, this goes to support my opinion that the new face-lift looks like *#@$@ compare to the old pop-up lights. Now the new butt, the new butt'z pretty nice...

it grows on you!:)

i do agree that the flip lights look nicer....as for taste,
i loved my NSX at first glance, second glance......forever.....

i don't think i'll buy a car that i'll grow into liking.....but that's just me......

besides, for people that checks our your NSX, there is no second chance for a first impression.

Celica? Too high off the ground? To each his own I guess, but I think that's crazy...

As for the opinions of onlookers, every comment I've gotten from the public at large has been that they think the new car looks much better than the old one (this is from friends and strangers). I think NSX owners are harder on the new look than the public (I know I was at first - until I saw it in person).

If you ask me, that experience above was a fluke. They may not have even seen the new one. There certainly isnt anywhere near enough difference in the two cars for one to send people to the moon and the other to be totally ignored... If anything, it would have been a "look at that!".... "hey, look at THAT!" type reaction...

Popup lights are dead guys, we have to face it. The press will tear apart any manufacturer that releases an "ancient 80s popup light system" on a new car. Id bet that even the new Corvette will have fixed lights

Everybody does have their own opinion about the fixed lights.
As for the original post being a fluke, don't be so sure. There are LOTS of people that like the 'old 80's style' pop up lights over the new ones.
They are both beautiful cars !!
Let's all just get along.

I think everyone does get along, but that doesnt mean everyone has to always agree right?

I can appreciate that many people prefer the popups (I preferred them for a long time as well - check my post history).

What I am saying is that there simply isnt enough of a difference between an 01 and an 02 for the 02 to go completely ignored and unloved as if it were a 79 pinto and the 01 to cause heart attacks. The cars are still really similar...

True. Still the same basic, classic design as the original. :)

As far as the lights are concerned, maybe someday we can have the best of both worlds. The popups look good when closed because of the uninterupted sculpted surfaces. The fixed lights provide better aerodynamics and lower weight.

Now the technology exists to make a material transform from opaque to transparent. If this can be applied to the lens covers we could have the appearance of the pre 02's with the function of the 02+.

If the 02+ lights were flush like some custom aftermarket kits (such as Gerry Johnson's black beast, or MYNSX's yellow car), they wouldn't be as controversial. I still like the 02+, but I fell in love with the original NSX design first.

Sierra Acura told me that 9/10 people that came to look at the '02 NSX walked away when they saw the new design. When I was in their showroom looking at the yellow/yellow '02 NSX they had a couple of kids walk in. They said, "eww, why would anyone fix up their NSX like that?" They had no idea it came from the factory like that.

People who are ignorant thinks its a body kit. It kinda reminds me of the 3rd Gen RX7 where everyone swapped the pop up lights for aftermarket fixed lights. I guess the '02 NSX gave those kids that impression.

I like the '02+ NSX alot, but more for the aerodynamic improvements than sheer looks. The gold calipers is the only thing I aboslutely hate about the car though. The HID lights are nice, very nice. The rear valence is awesome, although I don't like the fact they had to paint the bottom part to give us the illusion its 2 separate pieces.

The '02 wheels are awesome! :D

Hey I had an idea of having a head light that looked pop up but realy are not. Might sound strange but hope you guys find it interesting and even one of you might try it out for us.

The idea is to make it so that the top of the pop up headlight retracts in under the hood allowing the lights under it to do its work. So you get the look of a old nsx but the aerodynamics of a 02 or better. Actually when I get my nsx in the future this will be one of the first mods I'm going to see if I can do, unless you guys could tell me something that would make this impossible in the pre 02 NSX.

Tell me what do you think about the idea.

 I think ALL the NSX's are BEAUTIFUL!! I agree, I wish the headlights were flush and not raised although I like the look of the clear cover better that the pop up lights (they look good when closed but not open....in my opinion of course). When all is said and done, every year of the NSX KICKS ASS. I have loved this care since the very first one.

Enjoy!!

damn straight!

Tiger740: Good one ;). I was kinda thinking of a system with no moving parts. That particular exotic you posted has lots of moving parts, even parts that were never intended to move! :D

No offense to chryco owners...I've had a few along the way myself.

if anyone does not like their 02+, i will trade my 91 for their 02+

:)

Brian2by2: What color is your car??? That might be a big factor.

The '02 NSX front looks too common. It should be designed to be instantly striking - not something that grows on you. :( But like 92NSX said, we all have opinions... and my opinion is the same as FinallyNSXing and mietoe90's... :D

It is probably worth noting that these things are first and foremost designed to let us see where we're going at night, (I need all the help I can get!), and the fixed units "provide 132% greater illumination than the previous design", according to Acura. Not that you can't have hidden and bright, but with headlight alignment so critical with HID units it seems that a fixed housing would be preferable.
