steering loose

1996,NSX-T, 100K miles. Have a noticeable free play in my steering - wheel can turn ~0.5 inch with little to no impact on the car's direction. Still need to go through the normal troubleshooting of checking each component (tie rods, rack itself, knuckle) but with a 100K on the car, i expect...

Does anyone have any background in this problem? 1998-T 120K The wheel makes a noise only when I pull on in initially. I have not tried replacing the battery yet and after an alignment, the shop mentioned that nothing was loose. I have even checked myself and everything is firm in the steering...
