I put a deposit down for my NSX at a car show in 1990 and took possession in February 1991. At 70 years old, I am still enjoying the ride 27+ years later. I had the car out on the track last year which was a blast as usual although driving aggressively through tight winding canyon roads is...
Tips:
Remove the air box in order to provide much better access from above although much of the work was done from below. This is especially worthwhile in terms of accessing the bracket with the dreaded clip holding the clutch hose in place. It was pretty difficult getting the clip out and a...
Thanks for detailed instructions.
If replacing the slave cylinder as well as the hose, is there a preferred sequence in terms of unattaching the hose and replacing the slave? For example to minimize any brake fluid leakage, is it easier to take off and reattach the new hose first at the damper...
Thanks for all the help.
Unfortunately , I have not found anyone in the Vancouver area so far who has the expensive setup to extract the R12. Many are currently only dealing with R134a
Just not using it would be an option except for the impact on the effectiveness of the defrost/defog function...
Thanks for all the help.

Is the Denso 4711194 the model you installed? Not sure that I understand what you mean by "take over the base to the hose fitting from the old one".
Did you consider the GPD 6511599 or the 4 season 68366 compressors as well?
Thanks
I did not realize that the Denso A/C compressor was not for retrofit and set up for R12. It is the only A/C compressor that Denso lists in its catalogue (albeit from 2014) for the 1991 NSX. https://www.carid.com/images/denso/air-conditioning-heating/denso-ac-compressor-components-catalog.pdf...
Thanks a lot for the info....much appreciated.
A thread from years past included a recommendation by Larry B. to use ester oil as the best option to flush the system. Do you know if that is the oil included in the retrofit kit?
I was planning to purchase the Denso 471-1424 which indicates in...
Out of the blue, my AC compressor started making a significant racket which I originally thought was an engine problem but thankfully was not. Up until that point, I believe the AC was functioning normally with R-12. Not absolutely sure as I seldom use the AC here in Vancouver Canada. The AC...
Shop with experience in replacing AC compressor & recharging system-Vancouver BC area
My compressor recently packed it in on my 91 NSX. I was planning on purchasing the Denso 4711424 compressor and the OEM ac converter kit 38020-SM4-A1AH. If done in BC, one is required to convert from R12 to...
He was really only authorized to diagnose the problem. I think the issue is why he needed 6 hours to do so especially with his extensive NSX experience. All the parts for the timing belt/water pump service were not necessarily in stock. In addition, I was balking at the quoted 16 hours for...
To put things into perspective, this Tech is the NSX expert trained 27 years ago and has had lots of NSX related maintenance experience at this large Acura dealership over the years. In fact he is the designated Tech specifically trained to work on the new NSX as well.
Per the invoice, the...
Thanks for the feedback, it has been very informative.
Once it was determined that the timing belt was not ripped, was it relatively safe to start up the engine? I believe the NSX tech at a minimum also inspected the belt for any missing teeth to determine whether the belt had slipped somewhat...
Allow me to set the scene. I was driving my 91 NSX (which is a year past due for a timing/water pump replacement) back from the beach when it stalled for no apparent reason at an intersection. Shortly after it restarted there was a terrible noise coming from the engine bay. Fearing the worst I...
I need to do some major maintenance (timing belt/water pump/valve adjustment) on my 91 NSX in the near future. So.....does anyone have any recommendations for an experienced tech in the Greater Vancouver area?
Thanks
Comments from a rather old non-typical former 911 SC driver:
When I purchased my current 91 NSX 26 years ago, I had a 1978 911 SC Porsche picked up directly from the Stuttgart factory in Germany. Shortly after taking possession of the NSX, I vividly recall showing it to a number of the Porsche...
Has anyone had a recent timing belt/water pump and valve adjustment service performed at a reasonable cost preferably in the Pacific Northwest area? Thanks
The lower door latch lever recently broke at the typical spot. I have disassembled the broken lever (see attached pic).
Are there any options to fix/replace other than the SOS replacement part?
Thanks
Great write-up of your NSX experience. Enjoy your new toy, it should keep you fully engaged.
It would take something very special to tempt me to dispose of my 91 NSX which after 26 years of NSX ownership never fails to bring a smile to my face.
