Safe in the garage

I wanted to post a few pictures of something I did in my garage. It's a typical two car garage with a family of four's stuff in it. I've have two small kids. Everytime I leave the house or hear the garage door open I would worry. My father came up with this idea. I have to say that it works like a charm. I called this pool guy out to install a pool fence around the car. The fence is 48: high, which as we all know if taller than the car (good thing). Nothing can fall, hit or scrape the car.

Details: we made it into four sections (front, 2 side sections, rear). To get the car out I basically remove the front section (3 seconds). Take the two posts from the side section adjacent to the driver door and pull them back and re-insert them into additional side holes in the slab. Get in and drive off.

Nice work and very creative.

One question and one comment:
Question: How do the poles stay upright?
Comment: Get that cr@p off of the shelf next to the NSX so it doesn't fall onto the car.

install a live webcam and we'll take turns watching it on prime.

ive always wanted to do this in my garage...... seriously! Video surveillance man

Well I have to tell you guys that all the replies are great. I did want to post a few more pics I took yesterday right before I took it out for the Friday spin.

To answer a few of the questions posted.

Electric fence was a thought, but I thought the kids would end up toast.

The ladder is very secure (but I know what you mean)...... good eye!

The file cabinets are from work. I highly recommend them for garages.

Camera was a thought. But I didn't want to log on and have some seen out of SAW III were I could watch the destruction of my car and not be able to do a damn thing about it. I went with proactive/preventative measures.

Oh man...this is what one goes through after marriage and a kid?

J/k, my time will come I suppose. I'm surprised you didn't design something to cover the top which rests atop the poles. Something like a net, that can folded in a roll when you are done.

I've heard horror stories of NSX owners that had their cars covered in the garage, and yet working in the attic or bumping a shelf, causes a heavy enough object to fall and drop on the NSX damaging it even WITH the cover. I always wished they created a cover that has a material that thickens when in use (providing more cushion protection); then thins, when not in use, for easy storage.

I have a much better way...I use a Lexus to protect my NSX. My Lexus sits between my wife's Navigator and the NSX. It has at least 20 door dings on one side where my 3 kids open their door. I have the pool gate around the pool.

I understand completely. I am using an "exterior" cover in the garage which is much thicker than a standard one. I got this one from Science of Speed. It is fantastic.

I think a hole was cored in the concrete to set the poles...

Yes these drilled a hole for each post. No big deal, it's just the garage. It is my NSX. It cost me around $300. VERY cheap for what it would cost to fix even the smallest of.... "I'm sorry, it was an accident!"

Thanks for sharing! That is a great idea. I was thinking of getting a lift to move my car out of harms way. However, this is a great idea and costs less than a lift. I have not purchased a lift because we sometimes pull the car out and use the entire garage floor/space for projects. With a lift, it will be in the way even if the car is pulled out. I like the pool gate idea. Again thanks for sharing.

You're welcome. Thank my Dad. Old.... but he's still got a few in him. My neighbor next door has a lift. It's a four post hydraulic type that you drive up on. Looks serious. But I have to say that I have had my car up on it before. You must have the ceiling height to lift the car up all the way or it is an expensive pain in the a#@ and in the back. Not to mention that you can't do any wheel work because the car is still resting on all four tires.

Good luck and post pics when you get one installed.
