Caveat Emptor!
I just purchased a BT3 with AUX cable. Sound-wise working amazing connected to either the AUX or BT. Installed vertically right beside the climate control unit. (Edit: Installed another under the head unit. Great location wedged in with a bit of closed-cell foam.)I just installed the bt-3 unit...and have problems with the head unit buttons not working as listed, as well as having to manually advance to get another/next song to load using Spotify.
I haven't had time to try and work with Grom tech support yet.
Thanks for your advice; well takenDon't bother, or else make it the absolutely last thing you do. The OEM CD changer is slow, heavy, has poor anti-skip, and takes up a huge portion of the trunk, if you ever want to get away for a weekend. It was also a dealer add-on, so no need for it if you're trying to stay go OEM. Do a search on Prime for threads on the GROM BT3.
Get a GROM BT3 and run bluetooth off your phone. 100x the songs, no skipping, easier to control. You can use better eq settings than the bas/treb on the head unit. BTW, if you still want a CD changer and go with an alpine unit, you need a special adapter cable. It looks like the same connector as the Acura unit, but Acura changed the pin-outs so it will have lousy Right sided sound. If you've got good R side with FM, but lousy with the CD player, that's the problem.
Congratulations on fixing what can be a real journey and welcome to another Canuck! I don't want to sound like an ass, but if you're more interested in sound quality than nostalgia, I would have this advice:
- Never put another cassette in your deck. Lots of threads on the cassette getting stuck and bricking your unit, and it cost me a weekend of thrashing about. If you remove the tape deck, this also bricks the unit (poor design).
- The CD changer is a great piece of memorabilia from the 90's, but it's skip-prone, will only play original CD format disks, and takes up valuable space...

Presumably I have the latest firmware. When connected via bluetooth, the...

Same, but I've seen many different locations - Left, Right, (hanging from the top, but that location may interfere with putting a tire in the trunk if you have a flat. Moot point as no-one's going to trust that spare & put a wheel in the trunk anymore.) Wherever you put it, it subtracts volume from the trunk, but to each their own.Agree with all of that except the last bit. I know I'm going off on a tangent here, but I'm curious...
My changer's mounted on a hinged bracket that's screwed to the right-side wall of the trunk. It hardly takes any space. Was yours mounted somewhere else?
Probably best that you did. The lining disintegrates, the pieces don't have wheels, and they're the wrong size for everything except the NSX's trunk. Honestly, a couple of Tumi carryons would work better and look a lot less old-fashioned.wish i had never sold my unused michele chloe pieces (2)
I'm going to follow @Wild Turkey 's advice and ditch the CD player. Thanks!did you find a CD changer? I have one that works fine.
Where are you located?
BTW I'm in Jersey too! Camden County.I'm going to follow @Wild Turkey 's advice and ditch the CD player. Thanks!
Me in the not too distant future. : )The OEM CD changer is slow, heavy, has poor anti-skip, and takes up a huge portion of the trunk
I have the BT adaptor, the CD has much better sound quality, wish there was an easy way to switch between them.I'm going to follow @Wild Turkey 's advice and ditch the CD player. Thanks!
If you can tell the difference between BT & that CD player, I wonder if you've got a problem with your BT setup somewhere, maybe at the DA convertor or underlying source data quality, especially if you're using streamed audio (settings?). Might be worth investigating. I noticed a dramatic increase in sound quality when I switched from Google's DA converter to Musicolet on my phone. I also only use HQ files I've ripped myself, not streamed.I have the BT adaptor, the CD has much better sound quality, wish there was an easy way to switch between them.
