Looking to buy late 80's BMX/freestyle bikes

Hey guys- any of your kids leave any used 85' or newer bmx/freestyle bikes in the garage?

When I was a teenager these things were my "NSX's", and my "Track days" were spent aboard these bicycles floating aloft from ramps in several deserted lots all over the midwest. Now I want to obtain a few of them to use as art objects.

87-88 Haro Sport
87-88 Dyno detour/pro comp/ comp
86-88 GT performer / Pro Performer/ World Tour
87-89 Redline 700SL

-or just tell me what ya got, and what you want for it

Just so you know, there is a thriving community of collectors out here, and I am pretty well aware of what the different items are worth. I am not trying to steal from you folks, so let me know if you have what I am looking for, and we can go over valuation and agree on a price.

The bidding on Ebay is getting a little steeper than I'd like, and I am willing to bet a few of you might have these things collecting dust in your tool sheds / basements/ attics or otherwise/ I would be glad to help you clean house!

I have a Racing Incorporated in the basement. Not many people knew of them, but they were great. Not sure if I want to sell, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Anything that helps keep people looking at the thread is cool by me.
I just got the jones to buy a couple of these, and was hoping someone on here would want to get rid of one.

I imagine you had already looked, but there are a number of those bikes on ebay.

Unfortunately my GT Pro Performer was stolen from my garage about 8 years ago. :frown: I loved that bike!

Bikes stolen or sold...

My first bike was a French made PUCH (like to mopeds) MX Challenger- from my research, I don't even want to talk about what it would be worth to a collector today- lets just say that if the kid who stole it when I was 9, had stolen it today, it would be grand theft.:frown:

When I was 13 I built up a Dyno Pro Comp starting from a frame and fork ordered from BMX Plus. I poured pretty much all my earnings into assembling and modifying that bike with the best parts on the market. When I was done, there wasn't a single bike in my neighborhood that stacked up.

In terms of it's value to income, I guess you could equate that bike to a Supercharged, NSX with a complete suspension, wheels, racing seats, and big brakes.

When I turned 16 I sold it, and some spare parts to a classmate for $175

Dumb move. Like any modded machine, the sweat equity alone is worth more to me today- I cannot believe I was so dumb.

We used to deliver punishment to those bikes without mercy. Dropping into loading docks, 1/4 pipes, 1/2 pipes, dirt jumping, street riding, lake jumping... You name it.

Recently I was at a friends house here in Dallas and he had his old GT Pro Performer on display on the wall in his living room- I know it sounds silly, but it started a conversation that pretty much went on all night in a crowd of 26-30 yr old guys, and girls.

The culmination? A bunny hop contest on the driveway. I haven't had so much fun in quite a while.:biggrin:

Please, let me know if you, or someone you know has a bike they wouldn't mind parting with. You can't go back, but the memories are a lot of fun.

I don't have any freestyle bikes, but I did keep my last BMX bike. It's a JMC Racing frame and fork set with all the old stuff from back then that I just restored for my daughter to ride. I can't believe what they go for now, it's amazing!

I can relate to the stolen bike, I lost a tricked out Mongoose and then a Cook Bros.

Nope, but I was getting some pretty good air, and I did successfully pull off a flatland "tail-whip" at the cost of a rather expensive pair of Diesel casual shoes...

Like I said- big fun. I could see myself goofing around with the bike I build.

Hahaha, I too like to collect a few bikes and use to be co-sponsored from Haro for Freestyling. (Those ended up getting stolen back in the day.)

I currently have:
GT Pro Performer World Tour - Powder Blue with both white Mags and the Puregreen magnesium rims, GT Pro Series 3pc Cranks, 990 brakes. (I have held on to this bike for quite sometime and I am saving it for my son when he is able to ride a bike Brand new condition - Very Mint!- He is only 3 now....So it will be more of a collectors bike when I give it to him.)
Auburn - track bike - Forgot what version but it is Red, with chrome back, Redline 3pc Cranks.

Wow, I didn't think anyone remembered these...ahhh man the memories!

I'm surprised that an NSX'er isn't looking for an aluminum-framed bike from "back in the day".....an SE Racing PK Ripper!

unfortunately, my GT performer with the star wheels, hollow pegs, and custom paint was stolen.... Got my self a mountain bike the next day...

Found a Dyno here in Chicago! The project begins!

I am also attending a show / swap over in Indiana in February. Hopefully that will yeild some parts / (maybe a bike)

For those of you who were riders BITD- there is a great movie out called "Joe Kid on a Stingray"- it traces BMX from the 70's to the present. Basically it is the "Dogtown and Z-boys" of BMX.Great footage, and interviews with the pros who were idols way back when.

Perry Kramer (the P.K. in "P.K. Ripper") is interviewed extensively, amongst many.

It is interesting to see what bikes are collectable today. I've been in bike business since the early 70's. I can guess how old you guys are by what bike you want back now.When the first BMX boom died in the late 80's we could not give some stuff away that is now being sought after. Last week we restored a Redline that we sold new and is now ready for the original owners son. You never know what may come back around. We had a guy pay serveral hundred dollar for a once rusty Hutch and drive 800 miles from Florida to get it. Today we do a very small amout of BMX. Jeff

Memories of how many shins I scraped-up from the bear trap pedals(I think that was what they were called).
Redline 600a is my bike of choice with 3 piece crank,lay-back seat,shimano hubs!!!
I guess the customizing toys B.S. started way back then.

Oh man. I wish I still had my Hutch Hollywood. I found it at a little place on the side of the road and bought it for $60. I rode it for a few seasons then sold it for $400. It looked just like this:
