I looked and didn't see this posted before (The Nazi will look, I'm sure).
If you are doing any work on your car in relation to taking things apart, then look no further that you local Acura/Honda dealers parts department. Two adhesive backed rolls of foam are available for dealing with and preventing rattles, squeaks and annoying noises. Unfortunately, this won't address and or suppress sounds that may come from passengers seat when speeding legally. I stumbled accross this from the local NSX tech who was fixing a rattle. I seem to find no end to the uses for this stuff. From door panels, adhering it to the back of trim, taping wires down with it, etc. I snapped some shots for everyone to look at. The thinner of the foam is around 1/16th of an inch. The thicker one comes in at a poultry 3/16th of an inch. They both are around 6ft. in length. Part number for the 1/16th is 06990-SA5-000 and the 3/16th is 06992-SA5-000 respectively. Don't quote me on this (you know, memorys going), but I seem to remember the thinner being around 35 and the thicker being around 55. I hope this helps when either general fixes or some added protection when it comes to doing repairs.
I'll atttach some thumbnail pics and the rest in full resolution can be checked out in my gallery here.

John, do you know what type of foam material it is, or appears to be?

Don't you mean paltry?

Back to the topic. Why would we be interested in something like this? NSX's don't rattle or squeek.

I guess my sense of humor missed by a long shot! Seems as though I use this stuff on everything I take apart. I needed it most when I had the console and door switch panels plated by Artcraft Plating. They wanted all of the anti squeak foam backing removed and this fit the bill nicely.

A little off-topic, but did you post pics of the finished results of your plating project?

Nope. I can snap some shots if you'd like. I would never, ever do that project again. Not even for my worst enemy. I would be more inclined to paint the console with the new products available today, versus having it plated. More info on chrome paint here. That would give you many choices of finishes and styles. That being said, I had my console, cluster, door switch surrounds plated in satin chrome (looks like brushed aluminum without the pattern) and it was a pain in the a$$. Finishes offered are Chrome, Satin Chrome and Black Chrome. They wanted eveything stripped off, including the vents, which you have to break the glue/tabs off and the felt backing (which is what this post was about). Most grills on cars are plastic, with chrome applied. This is the process that they use, which is not like model car chromed plastic. I have had other plastic parts chromed and love the results.
Good luck,
John

Using this type of stuff is great. A few years ago, I had a couple of kit cars and it was invaluable in making for a squeak-free car. In addition to the material you obtained at the dealership, most hardware stores carry rolls of sticky-backed foam . Somtimes even better, crafts and fabric stores carry sticky-backed felt sheets which are incredibly thin and can fit between any 2 surfaces . I even used some of this to quiet the squeak in the targa top of a Ferrari. It stopped the squeak cold.

I've got that stuff all over/under the dash of my 96,it helps. What dose not help is adding stiffer susp, bracing to a targa.
