Detlef, what color are the nsx-r brake calipers? Thanks, Frank
They are gray.
I know that at some photos or videos they looks black, but they are
definately gray.

I never have seen a perfect NSX-R conversion, where this detail is also installed.
Most are using the 'golden' calipers from 02+ standard NSX.

Here we go, installed at the Procar NSX-RR.
These calipers, rims and tires are JDM NSX-R NA2,
the R calipers have their own part numbers.

actually I'm still working on the NSX-R 6 speed gearbox conversion problems.
I'm still collecting informations and solutions, but actually it looks like all problems can be fixed soon.

Story is here:
http://nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135672

The problems are:
1.) heavy oil spray over the breather tube during high speed (280+km/h)
2.) gearbox oil temperature
3.) gearbox reverse lock out solenoid
4.) lock out box (controller) made in USA

just got message from a customer, who owns a pre facelifted model (and also with old style rear valence)
that our new RGT cf diffusor also fit perfectly with that 'old valence' without modifications.

Customer will send some pictures, as soon they're here I will post them.

Detlef, thanks for the hepl with the caliper color. I had dupont mix me that color. I hopefully will have my brakes stripped and have this color baked on shortly. Frank

Hey Frank,

Dont forget to paint the pads to complete the update

regards, Paul

paint the pads

???? Paint the pads??????
Well, the most pads arent getting better only because they are painted red.

The ultimative pads for the NSX comes from ENDLESS, and ENDLESS Japan
does produce them for me for my 330mm BBK.

The same spec type of pads will be used at the 24h Nürburgring race, they only must me changed 1x after 12 hours......any questions?
I'm quite sure that no other compounds can hold that stress.

I have 1 NSX-R pad set (new) for sale, let me know if someone need it.
I also have the JDM NSX-R calipers in stock, for all who likes the original look.

Thanks for the RGT cf diffusor, what an awesome part.
I really like it.
Fitment and finish is perfect, you are my hero

Looking forward to see your Bilstein race suspension building and Nodschleife time attack with your car.

Could you fix your gearbox and lockout box problems already?
Hope to read some news soon.

Some rumours says you sold your NSX-R?

Yes, both problems are fixed, I'm happy.
Made lot of new experience and finally it was fun to sort out the problems.

sold your NSX-R
The R was sold to Thailand. yes.
R engine and gearbox too, so my stock is zero at the moment.

Bilstein race suspension building
Still waiting for some components, but till summer it should be installed and working right, also my new rear BBK.

So what was causing your 6 speed transmission to emit a heavy spray of oil out the breather tube at high speeds and how did you get the transmission oil temperatures under control?

Finally there was more than 1 problem I had to fix.

1.) 6 speed CT lockout box doesnt work right, so there was no chance for a smooth shift.
I wonder how I could manage to shift right without that workin' part.

2.) Heavy gearbox oil spray out of the breather tube during high speed driving (280+ km/h)

First step to control oil spray ( yes I had to clean the complete rear left and
rear side of my car for many hours...also the brake and exhaust section)
was to install some kind of small catchtank at the inner rear left fender (behind the inner plastic wheel liner) and extend the breather tube hose to this catchtank.

Same time I contacted Honda R&D here and they told me that I should remove Honda MTF3 gearbox oil because it starts to foaming at highspeed at nearly 150°C.
I contacted other NSX specialists and it seems that this MTF mist is a typical 6MT phenomenon.
It won't happen on 5MT.
On 6MT, all of them will show the MTF oil mist once you exceed about 250kph. It won't happen at lower speed such as 150kph, thats the reason why nearly noone in USA or Japan knows about that problem.

The racing guys from Honda had simular problems with the NSX-R race car.
I got special 75W90 gearbox oil from their Motorsport department which I filled in, 2.7 Liter exactly.

I checked the gearbox oilpump section too and replaced the O-ring, this section was completly fine, but no other result was expected.

I was just before to install an gearbox oil cooler, but because of the catch tank situation I decided to make some other high speed tests without that mod.

Same weekend my electonic shop fixed the problem with the CT lockout box, which works fine now, (thanks to Karl-Heinz) but it needs ~50 km/h speed until that solenoid blocks the reverse section.
Thats a bit too late IMO and my version will work with the half of speed, because it should be a smooth shift from 4th to 5th under that speed, in town especially.

Finally after some more serious highspeed drives at night with 300 km/h+ at my GPS I checked the catchtank situation again.
Absolutely dry, no single oil drop.

Problem seems to be gone, nevertheless I will hold that part for next few weeks.
It will be removed again for weight saving reasons after that time period.

I plan to install a gearbox oil temperature sensor and gauge to have exact °C numbers,
if these numbers are too high, an oil cooler will be the next mod for race track use.

Actually it doesnt look that their is an urgent need for that, but I will hold my attention to this.

Finally R gearbox with OS Giken final drive and LSD inside in combination with light flywheel/clutch system is awesome,
I dont regret that decision, even if it was more work as expected to sort things out.

Detlef, this is the exact same configuration I have on my car. I agree that after you get everything dialed-in—after the LSD clutches stop chattering all day long, and after the first OSG lube change—the entire system is what Honda should have built into the R.

Now, our two NSX-RR just gets launched out from corners.

Thanks for sharing that! It’s good to know that Honda MTF3 starts foaming at around 150°C. According to the temperature sensor I installed in my gearbox, that's how hot the oil gets during high speed driving if you don’t give it long cooling off periods between full throttle stints.

I was planning on replacing the Red Line MT-90 (75w90) transmission oil I’m using now with Honda MTF3, but I guess I won’t. Even if my 5 speed transmission doesn’t spray oil like a 6 speed, foaming transmission oil doesn’t sound good!

Well, the Red Line oil is not very known here in Germany, but it should work too.
Actually I do test another oil brand here.......more soon.

Hi Detlef, good to hear your transmission issue seems to have been resolved. Did you use the Motul oil?

You state:

"Finally after some more serious highspeed drives at night with 300 km/h+ at my GPS I checked the catchtank situation again.

That is about 186+ mph. How did you get your NSX to go 300+ k/hr?

I tested different gearbox oils during last few weeks after my serious problems.

Honda MTF3 is a good gearbox oil for standard Honda gearboxes, I use it in all my Honda's, but it doesnt work fine at my NSX-R gearbox.
Honda Racing Europe didnt use that oil into their race cars too because of simular problems, they got a special one from Honda Japan. I got the same and it worked well, but it was very expensive.

I meet a Motul engineer during the last 24h race here at the Nürburging and hold him about my problems with my new NSX-R gearbox.
MOTUL supports many racing teams here with sponsoring and as I heard,
they have different oils for race cars, even for Hewland gearboxes and some other brands of racing gearboxes.

He gave me some bottles of MOTUL Gear 300 75W90, which I tested already.
That oil is perfect too, no problems with oil spray even after excessive high speed driving.
Think that oil will be my 1th choice into the future.

That is about 186+ mph. How did you get your NSX to go 300+ k/hr?
Well, my car has 312HP and 1.178 kg weight.
The complete aerodynamic from NSX-R plus some goodies like diffusor from NSX-R show car helped me to increase the top speed at my car.
The MUGEN ECU from the ADAC GT Cup NSX plus big bore throttle body and the Fujitsubo LM GT header works fine at my car since many years and.....
What should I say..... 8.400 rpm at 6th gear is normal at each test drive.

How is the shift quality with Motul Gear 300? It looks like it’s a fully synthetic ester-based 75w-90 manual transmission oil just like Red Line MT-90, but I’m sure it’s easier to get here in Europe. With the Red Line MT-90, my transmission never crunches and the shifting effort is very low after the first few gear changes. If that's the case with Motul Gear 300 as well, I'll stop having the Red Line oil air mailed over from California.

The shift quality with Motul Gear 300 is simular to the MTF from Honda.
Cold NSX gearboxes always feels a little bit stiff first few gear changes, but that feeling completely is gone after some kilometers of driving.
My impression is:
As harder the NSX will be driven, as smother the gearbox is working, especially at my NSX-R gearbox.

I planed to order RedLine MT90 too for a test, but I hesitate because its foolish to ship some liters of oil half around the world.

We have superb manufacturers here too in europe, the most good things comes from here, so I decided to test MOTUL at first.

Finally I can highly recomment that oil
price is ~15 Euro/Liter
